Chapter 6: Experiment Gone Wrong

(Ian Somerhalder as Marcus, if the pic isn't visible please let me know).

Brittany's POV:

Keith pulls bandages from the cabinet along with a bottle filled with what I am assuming is disinfectant. He kneels beside my left leg and unties the cloth. I hiss in pain when the wound reopens and begins to bleed again.

He pulls at the ripped pieces of my jeans and tries not to rip them any further, considering they're all I have.

"You're going to have to take your jeans off, this is the only pair you have and I don't want to ruin them anymore than they already are." Keith states, causing my face to heat up.

"Oh, we-" Marcus goes to say something but Sawyer puts his hand over his mouth, causing Keith to raise an eyebrow, but he ignores them.

I let out a sigh of defeat and glance down at my jeans. Marcus has the respect to go upstairs but Sawyer, of course, takes a seat on the other side of the desk and begins to sharpen his knife. I roll my eyes and with some help standing up from Keith, I begin to unstring my belt from my jeans.

"Take a walk, Sawyer." Keith demands, noticing my discomfort.

Sawyer rolls his eyes and stands, replying, "Sure thing, Boss."

He heads for the stairs, but not before looking back and throwing a wink my way, causing me to shake my head. I kick off my boots and pull my jeans down. Keith, thankfully, doesn't even glance my way as he opens the container and prepares the bandages.

I take a seat and that's when I noticed the people who put me here even changed my undergarments. I shudder in disgust and prop my leg up on the desk. I hate people.

Keith hands me a mini bottle of alcohol but I turn it down.

"Look, you may not drink, but this will make it hurt less." He offers it again. This time I take it and down the liquid. It feels like lava going down my throat, causing me to cough.

"Where did you get these things?" I ask.

He takes some dental floss and threads it like string. He gets ready to stitch up my wound but I look away. I groan in pain as he cleans it and begins to stitch it up.

"We found it in the houses and in the rooms." He reply's, his eyebrows furrowed in concentration.

"What about the guys? How'd you find them?" I continue to keep up a conversation, wanting to think about anything but the needle currently threading through my leg.

"I woke up with Marcus. Sawyer," He scoffs, "We ran into him somewhere on the North side. Kinda wish he hadn't stuck around."

Wait, didn't they say the North side was overran? I remember hearing something about that.

"Isn't the North side where the factories are? And the city? What happened there?" I pester him.

"There's Grounders everywhere on that side. Lab experiment gone wrong." He reply's.

"Experiment?" I ask. He just shakes his head and that's when I knew I wasn't going to get anything else out of him.

I look outside and notice the sun is starting to go down. Keith stands after wrapping the gauze around my leg and lights three candles with a match.

"Don't go outside." He tells me.

"Wasn't planning on it." I reply.

He hands me my jeans and announces, "Putting those jeans on my hurt, I'll keep the guys upstairs if you want to wait a bit before putting them back on. Your room will be the one that says 06 on it. Call me when you're ready to come upstairs."
