Chapter 18: Canis
Brittany's POV:
"From now on nobody leaves your side, and if something happens, you tell us." Keith demands.
I'm currently the center of attention. We're all sitting in the living room, debating last nights 'episode.'
"I'm not a child," I point at Keith, then snap my gaze to Cain, "And stop glaring at me, jack a**!"
He looks away and I feel guilty, remembering the story about his sister.
"I think he's right, Britt. And we're not saying you can't take care of yourself, we're saying we need to make sure this doesn't happen again, and if it does, that it doesn't get out of hand." Talon explains.
I sigh in frustration because it's six against one, "Alright, fine. But that crap stops," I point at Cain, "I'm not some creature." He doesn't object, he just ignores me.
"The antidote should last a month. We have about thirty days to find a permanent one." Talon announces.
"Where do we find a permanent one?" Sawyer asks. Everyone goes silent.
"It's in a vault." The words leave my mouth before I can stop them, the memory coming out loud.
"What vault?" Marcus asks.
"I don't know. The nurse said she would put it in the vault. There was a medicine vault on the first floor, but I doubt that's where it is." I reply.
"So you remember something?" Asks Keith. I had forgotten I only told Talon.
"Yeah, I remember being drug down the hall in floor three, and I remember hearing the doctor talk and grabbing the vial. That's about it." I reply.
"So we get to floor three?" Ashton asks.
"It doesn't work that way. Like I said, we need a key." Talon says.
"What is it? Where can we get it?" Marcus asks.
"You have to listen to me, it's not this simple. The key is wired internally in every Original, there is no way we could get it from them. I think that it could be used to get into the garage door, but I'm not positive." Talon growls, trying to get Marcus and Ashton to understand.
"Then don't you have one?" Cain interrupts, causing all eyes to fly on Talon.
"No. They took it out of me." He glares deadly at Cain for exploiting something he shouldn't have.
"Where is it at?" I ask.
"Under the mark. Originals travel in Packs, rarely leaving their base, that's why they force people like Cain and Ashton to work for them. They call their workers Canis', meaning dog, they do their outside work," Talon doesn't falter his gaze, "And there is only three Originals who turned Savage. Their like that because someone had managed to get ahold on the virus, someone with a tracker, and managed to get it in their systems. He was killed for it, but those Savages are the only three that still have their key. That's why they developed the camouflage injections for themselves."
"What are you saying?" I ask. I thought Talon forgot all of this stuff.
"I'm saying that if you're going to get your hands on a key, your going to have to get an Original. And to get an Original, you're going to have to kill one of the Originals that turned Savage and take it. Original Savages are much worse than the average." Talon reply's.
"If Originals rarely leave their base, why did two come to get me?" I ask.
"Did their tattoos have a red lining?" He asks.
"No." I reply.
"Then they were Canis, the ones that do the work, not Originals. See, Originals have red lining their mark, Canis, don't have a lining. Reapers, have a cut through them. Reapers are the ones who weren't Originals, but were sent to work here and left. Any that stayed became Originals. My redlining was removed." He explains.
"Don't you two remember anything?" I ask Ashton.
"No, we never got any farther than getting a mark, we bolted the second we got a chance. Never saw the seconds base, but there is two of them. One in the middle of the city, which we were taken to, but we didn't know where the second was. I guess it's on the third floor of the factory." He reply's.
"Do you know where the Savage is?" Asks Keith.
"I've ran into him once or twice, it's not fun. He's towards the heart of the city, about halfway there. But we need to think about this. When I left, there were three hundred Originals, give or take a few. And at the first base, in the city, over one hundred loyal Canis. If we get to the third floor, what then?" Talon asks.
"Maybe we could find a way to get them out of the factory. Is there a way to reverse their camouflage?" I ask.
"There is a control panel. It controls every virus, every injection. They can stop it, start it, reverse it, kill it. Anything. If we get to it, we could stop the virus they put in you and everyone else." Talon announces.
"I though you forgot all of these things?" I ask.
"I guess my antidote wore off too." He reply's, his head going down as if he's remembering things that are haunting him.
"So, that panel can stop all of this?" Sawyer asks.
Talon nods.
My head immediately swarms and I tell them, "I think I know what we can do, but there's a lot of gaps to fill in."

I watch in fascination as Talon mixes some chemicals into an empty gallon bottle, placing wires in certain places.
"That is so cool." I watch but, as I was told, don't touch.
He leaves something to sit as he goes back to a self made map of the second and third floor. There's empty spaces. He stares at it, his brows creased in concentration.
"I can't remember hardly and of the second story, and I can't remember the second half of the third floor, I can only remember where I worked," He spits the last part out like poison, "The explosives need to be placed beside the chemical storage, and beside the emergency storage. If that explodes, they'll come running out like roaches. The emergency storage has their chemical masks, so they won't have any if that's gone. But, we'll need chemical masks of our own if we're going to get to the panel. The hazard chemicals are very strong, the masks will only last about an hour. We'll need to get to the panel within a matter of minutes."
"If we have an hour, why minutes?" I ask.
He looks at me and asks, "Are you good at stealth?"
(Author's Note: Sorry for cutting this one short, but I have to in order to fit the chapter content correctly. Anyway, if anyone is confused about the Original/Canis/Reaper relation please let me know. I tried to explain the best I could. Thank you :) -Bri*
