"The trial- how much do you think we can delay it?" I asked Farlan, setting down a response letter I had received from Mikasa.

this would be so much easier if levi would just wake up

"Only a few days longer," he frowned, "Marquess Forster and other members of the aristocracy have been submitting petitions for his release."

right- up until now he's been on temporary house arrest

if that's lifted-

he'll be able to meet with his supporters and stage a stronger defense

"How long has it been since we sent the letter back?" The days had blurred together since Petra had come to speak to me- especially since most of that time had been spent indoors.

it can't have been too long

"Three days," Farlan glanced at a calendar. "They rode through the night."

"Mikasa- the acting commander of the Rose Guard- sent a response saying that they would mobilize to search for the person I'm looking for-"

but it didn't say that they had found her

presumably she sent a reply as soon as she received my letter

"We can't delay for much longer."

i know

"Four days- can we do that?"

if they haven't found her in time she likely doesn't want to be found

i even sent instructions on how to contact her via mr squid

if they don't find her within a few days they should just give up

i'll just-

leave and find her after the trial

"Possibly," he nodded, "are you sure this is going to help?"

hopefully

"Has the doctor been helpful?"

"No-" Farlan mumbled, "they're telling us to wait."

they told my father to wait too

"We don't have time for that."

"You're right."

"Hanji fixed our problem- I'm sure she can fix Levi."

hopefully the note i left with his symptoms does something

even if they get here after the trial-

even if we don't win-

i just want him back

so i can yell at him for being stupid

"I hope you're right."

"Me too."

im choosing to believe that i am

"Alright, let's move on," Farlan gestured to a large stack of documents laid out in front of us.

right-

we were actually doing something

"Finish talking to me about everything we've found out so far?" I nodded, glancing over a couple papers.

"Kuchel is on her way," he passed me a letter hastily written on a scrap of paper, "she should be here by tomorrow, you'll likely be less involved with the paperwork when that happens."

it isn't a problem

"She'll probably want to see Levi, I don't mind helping."

but i won't fight her for the job either-

i'd also like to spend more time with him

even if-

i can literally look up from this desk and see him lying in the bed over there

i don't want to not be there when he wakes up

"You'll need to turn your attention to the trial," Farlan nodded, "Petra will be a witness but it's likely that they will attempt to undermine any arguments as Levi is still unconscious."

and it's likely that they'll try to pin the blame on me in some way

"Right."

after petra brought me to levi she directed members of the forster staff to search the mansion

they found the poison that levi and petra planted

along with a much slower acting poison-

the one originally intended

at the very least it feels good to know that he is the actual culprit

"Are we able to uh- search the place?" I frowned, "I'm worried that they might insist on the poisoning being coincidental- or the fault of some staff member."

given that he intended to frame me- i wouldn't put it past him

"Possibly," Farlan nodded, "they've already taken everything of note away from the mansion- I'm not sure you'll be able to uncover anything new."

i wonder

"There might be something they overlooked- the authorities don't know everything that happened to Levi and I- they don't know that Floch tried to do something in the past."

that he nearly succeeded

"I'll see about getting permission, if not you may need to appeal to the prince yourself."

erwin had taken over the investigation

"Petra said he was talking to someone about his plan- there must be something- some kind of physical evidence of his intention."

i'll assume that he's smart enough to have erased most evidence of him directly planning to poison levi

but im sure there's something else

it sounded like he wanted to claim my territory in the chaos of it all-

surely he has some kind of plan there

and if we're lucky there's physical evidence of it

"Isabel should be able to get you access and escort you while you investigate."

alright

"She'll probably want to stay with Kuchel once she gets here right?" I muttered.

honestly we should make sure kuchel is well guarded

"I think she just wants this to end," Farlan looked a little pained talking about Isabel, "same as all of us."

i don't remember much but-

when i ran into the room

isabel seemed to be taking it just as bad as i was

she must have been surprised

i haven't talked to her about it

"Hey Farlan?"

"Yes?"

"I'm sorry for yelling at you the other day."

im not sorry for being upset

but maybe i could have been more considerate

about what everyone else was going through

"You don't have to be."

"I want to be."
