"So? What did he say?" Eren rushed into the room, eager for details.

not much

"Apparently she'll reveal herself to us if she wants to be found," I shrugged, "so we have to just walk into the woods and trust that she'll find us."

there's a lot to unpack

"It's our only shot," Levi muttered. "She's been alive for over a hundred fucking years- even if we weren't in this position it would be stupid to not seek her out."

i know

i went in there not thinking about it- selfishly

but what my father assumed- that i'm doing this for him

if there's a chance to help him

she's the one who has it

"I bet you're excited," I grinned over at him- "not only do you get to explore the forest- you have the opportunity to meet someone with decades of research experience."

"If this is going to turn into a lecture- shut the fuck up."

"I mean it-" I paused, "I mean- it's an opportunity for both of us- and you've helped me a lot- it's only fair that you get a minute to talk to her. I'm sure the two of you have more in common than I will with her."

she doesn't like the rose guard-

it appears that my father agreed to leave her alone on the condition that i would be brought back

so she doesn't think too kindly about my family

rather she's probably hated them for the better part of a century

hopefully levi being there will make it a little less awkward

"Can you two stop being nice to each other? It's weird," Eren interjected, wrinkling his nose.

"Shut the fuck up."

"Eren if you keep talking I'm going to make you leave-"

"Jeez-" the knight shook his head. "It's just disconcerting."

WHATEVER

"We've swapped bodies- we're allowed to be disconcerting," I grumbled.

this entire situation is disconcerting

what's worse is that i'm getting used to it

i need to get back asap

"So," Eren grinned, "when do we leave? Soon, right? Should I start stealing supplies from the storehouse- we should time when we leave for when Mikasa is out on patrol-"

TOO FAST

"Well about that-" I looked away from him, bracing myself.

"Oh- you aren't bringing me, are you?"

"He told me that she wouldn't show up if she saw one of the knights-" I glanced back up at him, "unfortunately that includes you."

it is a little worrying

i mean-

what if we run into danger

"Yeah you're going to have to sneak out then," Eren frowned, "if Mikasa catches onto the plan she'll force you to take someone."

i thought as much

"So?" Levi shrugged, "we leave while she's out at patrol, like you said."

hmm

"Right," I nodded, "we should plan to be gone for a week and pack enough to last us- my father also mentioned that she would want tea and cookies."

factoring all that in-

it would probably take us around two days to gather everything and prepare to leave

there's the bigger question of how we fool mikasa

"I'll volunteer myself to distract Mikasa," Eren piped up, "but- you have to bring me something."

my knight in shining armor

"What?" Levi questioned.

"I don't know- like a rock or something? It feels stupid to be left out like this- I should at least get a souvenir," Eren grumbled. "I mean you two were going to force me to distract Mikasa anyway right? I should at least get a cool rock out of it."

you are insane

"What the fuck," Levi muttered.

"Just a rock?" I frowned.

"Is that too much to ask? I'm giving up on the plan if you two can't even get me a rock."

"We can get you a shitty rock."

"I don't want a shitty rock- I want a cool rock."

"We can get you a cool rock, Eren."

i would go on and lecture him about being a little more ambitious about rewards but-

a rock is really easy to get

so we should just leave it at that

"Is that all?" Levi pressed, dumbfounded.

DON'T ASK THAT

"What else are you going to find in the forest?"

i mean like a wealth of magical resources-

not to mention

we're going to talk to someone who has been alive for over a century

you would think that you would set your sights higher

but a rock is cool too

"Don't think about it too much," I urged Levi, "let's just focus on progress."

"Sure-" he frowned in response.

i think levi is taking psychic damage from eren

the two of them need to be separated at all costs

if the two of them ever fight-

well i don't doubt levi's physical capabilities but i do think he will be a shell of the person he is now

sometimes sheer dumbassery is more powerful than any weapon

"Then it's settled- Levi and I will get you a rock and you'll distract Mikasa."

a perfect plan i don't see what could go wrong

"And the supplies?"

that will have to be a team effort

"You'll have to ask the maids to prepare the tea and cookies-" I paused, "Eren and I can see to the rest."

hopefully we reach hanji quickly- the cookies will get stale

"This is exciting," Eren grinned.

isn't it?

"Are you excited Levi?"

a pause

"Yeah- I'm excited," he spoke with a bit more hesitation than I was expecting.
