"Petra Ral is here to speak to you," Farlan murmured, coming up to my side.

great

"I don't want to see her, please tell her to leave," I muttered, eyes focused on the shallow rise and fall of Levi's chest.

"Y/N-"

"Farlan- please- just leave me alone for a bit."

"You read Levi's letter," he ignored me, continuing to stand by Levi's bedside. "He knew this was going to happen- when she came to him about the poison being stronger than we initially thought he was the one who told her to keep quiet about it."

"And?"

"And so I think you should speak to her-" he sighed loudly. "The trial is in a few days- if Levi hasn't recovered by then you're going to have to be there- at least speak to her so you'll be prepared for it."

i just don't want to

can't that be enough

the trial can wait until after he's recovered

"He hasn't opened his eyes in five days- the trial is the least of my worries."

"If you don't go there would have been no point in any of this."

did this need to happen to begin with???

"With or without the trial there was absolutely no point in him knowingly taking the poison."

he's smart- why couldn't he come up with another way to do this?

"You're both being ridiculous," Farlan shook his head. "You're right, he shouldn't have done that- but you shouldn't be wasting the opportunity that he gave you."

im so angry with levi

"If he's so smart he should have known that I would react like this and found another way."

i don't think i would be able to keep calm during the trial

it all feels pointless

what's the point of a trial when it can't even guarantee your safety-

the doctor mentioned lasting side effects

what are we supposed to do?

"I won't reprimand you for being upset but I can't let you sit here and pass up the opportunity he hurt himself to give you," Farlan's voice turned cold and level. "Do you think you're the only one worried about this?"

"It feels like it- you were all on board with this stupid plan."

"Isabel wasn't."

"That's one of you."

"And? She's been working directly to make sure that no one tries anything in retaliation," he paused. "We're all upset- but that isn't stopping us from doing something about it."

farlan i don't want you to work for me anymore

"What would you want me to do? I'm not useful here-" I huffed, "Isabel is his personal guard she can directly do something- you're- you're you you were in on it you had time to prepare for this-"

i don't feel like there's anything useful for me to do

and i don't want to leave him

what happens if he wakes up?

what happens if he doesn't?

im scared of not being there for that

i don't want what happened with my father to happen again

im scared

"I've told you what you can do."

"He'll wake up before the trial."

"And if he doesn't?"

"I don't know what I'll do."

"Speak to Petra at the very least," Farlan sighed loudly, "I'm sending her in."

why bother?

"Please don't."

"I'm not giving you a choice," the door clicked shut behind Farlan.

fine

"Do you hear that Levi?" I whispered, "you shouldn't have done it- Farlan and I are never going to be best friends again."

it's your fault

Levi's unconscious body remained the same, his chest gently rising and falling in complete silence.

"I'm coming in," a timid voice called out from outside, followed by a faint creaking as the door opened.

please leave

"I'm sure Farlan sent you in here with a specific goal but you're wasting your time."

i'm not interested in hearing it

"I'm sorry," Petra apologized, hovering awkwardly behind me.

"Why didn't you tell me?" I managed, eyes still trained on Levi.

i don't want to look at her

"I assumed-" her voice faltered, "he- he told me not to tell you- that he wanted to do it himself."

alright

"-but- I should have," she murmured, "I had a suspicion when we met that you didn't know- I should have said something then."

i wish you had

maybe we could have stopped it

i hated the plan

"Why didn't you?"

im so frustrated

not with petra specifically

with everything

petra, farlan, isabel

levi- mostly levi

"I just- I don't have a good excuse-"

"Just give me one."

"I assumed that he left you in the dark for a reason- that he wasn't worried about getting hurt for a reason," she explained. "I thought that maybe he knew of something that would protect him from the poison and wasn't worried about the consequences."

"I wish."

"He didn't write anything?"

"Just a general note- about his plan- nothing about how to fix this."

wait-

"I'm sorry."

"No hold on- what did you say?"

"That I'm sorry?"

"No-" my mind began to turn, "about not being worried about consequences-"

the most frustrating part about all of this is that it seems to impossibly stupid and out of character

but what if-

what if he felt comfortable because he had a failsafe

"Did he tell you what he was giving you?"

what was he poisoned with?

"No-" she shook her head.

what if-

"Please find Farlan- I need to send a letter home- I think I might know someone who can help."
