The tension in the car was palpable as Jennifer desperately tried to explain herself to Derek. The sound of the engine roared in the background as they sped through the night towards the hospital, accompanied by the presence of Stiles and Scott in Stiles' jeep, following closely behind.
"You should know I'm not doing this because I have to," Jennifer pleaded, her eyes locked on Derek's. "I want to. I could still run, and you wouldn't have an easy time stopping me. But I don't want your sister to die. I'm only doing what I had to do."Jennifer explained.
Derek's face remained hard and unyielding as he stared back at Jennifer, his gaze filled with a mixture of anger and suspicion. His grip tightened on the steering wheel, his knuckles turning white. "Shut up," he ordered her, his voice dripping with venomous authority. But Jennifer refused to be silenced. She knew the gravity of the situation and the importance of her words. "You need to hear the whole story, Derek," she insisted, her voice filled with urgency. "You need to know just how connected we really are."she told him .
Derek's eyes flickered with a momentary flicker of curiosity, but his resolve remained unbroken. . "Whatever twisted game you're trying to play here," i growled, my voice laced with a dangerous edge, "shut up before I find the nearest pole and wrap you around it like a Christmas present and leave you for dead, for the alphas. I'm sure they're salivating for a bite."I threatened .
The threat hung heavy in the air, its chilling effect causing Jennifer to shrink back into her seat.
••••••••••••••••••••••
The hospital was a frenzy of chaos as the storm raged outside, unleashing its fury with thunderous rain and treacherous winds. I held Jennifer's hand firmly as we navigated through the frantic crowd of the hospital hall, pulling her along with me. "Scott, Scott! What are you doing here? The hospital's evacuating," Melissia exclaimed, as she tried to make us stop.
"We're here for Cora," Scott replied, his voice determined and resolute. Melissa glanced behind Scott, her eyes widening as she took in the sight of all of us. "What, all of you?" she asked, her confusion evident. "And why does Stiles have my bat?" she added, noticing Stiles holding her bat tightly in his hands.
I looked up, noticing the flickering lights above us, a result of the storm's wrath. "Mom, just trust me on this. You need to get out of here. Right now," Scott informed her, his voice filled with urgency and concern. Melissa hesitated for a moment, her eyes darting between us, before finally relenting. "The building is supposed to be clear in 30 minutes. We've got two ambulances that are coming back. One's 10 minutes out, the other's 20. Cora needs to be on one of those. They'll be picking up in the basement garage," she explained, her voice filled with a sense of urgency.
"Got it. Okay," Scott acknowledged, his determination unwavering. We rushed into the elevator, eager to reach Cora's side. Jennifer glanced at us all, her voice filled with determination. "You don't have to keep me on a leash, Carla . I'm going to help," she asserted. "Keep talking, and I'll be sure to put you on a nice, pretty pink one," I retorted, my tone firm and unwavering. Jennifer glanced back at Scott and Derek, who clearly remained unconvinced by Jennifer's words. Stiles, standing next to them, raised the bat, ready to defend us if necessary.
As the elevator doors opened, we stepped out into the dimly lit hallway. The flickering lights added an eerie atmosphere to the already tense situation. We hurried down the corridor, our senses on high alert. Finally, we reached Cora's room, only to find it empty. Panic gripped my heart as I noticed blood on the floor, mixed with mistletoe, causing a wave of revulsion to wash over me.
Scott's voice broke through the silence, bringing our attention to a trail of blood leading to the closed double doors. "Guys," he called out, his voice filled with urgency. We followed the trail, Suddenly, the doors burst open, and Peter, battered and bruised, hurtled through the air, coming to a rest at our feet.
