Billie's pov
I woke up early, the excitement of the day already rushing through me. Malia's birthday had been on my mind for weeks, and Madi and I had been planning this surprise together. Today was finally the day, and I couldn't wait to see her reaction.
I grabbed my keys and headed out, driving to Madi and Malia's apartment with the playlist I'd made for the day playing softly in the background. As I pulled into the driveway, I felt a mix of nerves and excitement, hoping everything would go according to plan.
Quietly, I let myself into the apartment, knowing Madi had left the door unlocked for me. The place was quiet and peaceful, the early morning sun just beginning to filter through the curtains. I made my way to Malia's room, the door slightly open, and peeked inside. There she was, still asleep, curled up under the blankets, her hair spread out across the pillow.
I couldn't help but smile at the sight of her. She looked so peaceful, and for a moment, I hesitated, not wanting to disturb her. But then I remembered what we had planned, so I leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead.
"Wake up," I whispered, kissing her forehead again.
Malia stirred, her eyes slowly fluttering open. "Hi," she mumbled.
"Happy birthday," I said, my smile widening as she fully woke up.
She blinked a few times, her brow furrowing in confusion. "What are you doing here?"
"We have somewhere to go," I told her, trying to keep the excitement out of my voice but failing miserably.
"But I want to sleep," Malia groaned, pulling the blanket over her head.
I laughed, grabbing the edge of the blanket and gently tugging it away from her. "Nope, come on. We have plans, birthday girl."
She peeked out from under the blanket. "Where are we going?" She tilted her head.
I shook my head. "You'll see. But you have to get up first."
Malia sighed dramatically. "Fine, fine," she grumbled, sitting up and rubbing her eyes. "But this better be worth it."
"Oh, it will be," I promised, reaching out to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. "Now hurry up. We have a lot to do today."
She swung her legs over the side of the bed, still looking a bit groggy but with a small smile starting to play on her lips.
"You're not going to give me any hints, are you?" she asked, glancing at me as she got up.
"Nope," I said. "But trust me, you're gonna love it."
Malia rolled her eyes but couldn't hide her smile. "Alright, alright. Give me a few minutes."
I nodded, stepping back to give her some space. "I'll be out in the living room when you're ready."
Malia and I pulled up to the little coffee shop I had rented out for the morning. It was one of those cozy spots tucked away from the busy streets, with soft lighting and comfy chairs that made you want to stay for hours. The place was empty except for us, just as I had planned.
As we walked inside, Malia took a look around, her eyes widening in surprise. "Aw, Billie, you're too cute," Malia smiled.
"I just wanted a little date in the morning," I said.
