THREE YEARS LATER

"Wait for mommy, Jaxson. I have to put on my shoes!"

Yuko rushed through the house to find her sandals that she could guarantee her two year old son hid somewhere. They were getting ready to take their morning walk so he could get some fresh air, and like always, he was rushing her by whining and pulling on the door knob.

She rushed back up the steps and into her husband's office, where he let her know with hand signals that he was on a call. After leaving law enforcement, Jetson was able to find a new position as a Chief Compliance officer at one of the biggest companies in Japan.

Officer was in his title, but he didn't do anything related to his prior career. In fact, he spent most of his days working from home from eight to three, if he wasn't traveling to the office for a quarterly meeting.

Yuko signaled that she was looking for her sandals. Thankfully, Jetson was off the call and no longer had to play charades with his wife.

"What are you looking for, babe?" he asked, standing from his chair.

"My sandals. You already know Jaxson is rushing me to go on his walk."

Jetson opened his office closet and pulled them out.

"He put them in here yesterday. Might want to put a tracker on those," he chortled.

"Thanks," she said, sliding them on. "How's work?"

"Good. I have a few before my next call. Can I join?"

"Of course, honey. That way you can entertain Jax while I send out a few updates to my team."

Jetson playfully rolled his eyes as he grabbed his jacket for the spring breeze.
"How wholesome. Come on, woman."

He patted her bottom, gesturing her down the stairs to meet their baby boy by the door. Jetson swooped him into his arms and rustled his hair full of wild curls.

"You know, Jax, if you stop hiding mommy's shoes you two could leave on time."

"Leave on time?" He repeated.

Yuko tittered at their conversation as she locked the door behind them. While Jetson walked with Jax, she slowly trailed behind. She was responding to a few emails and texts for her business that had just turned one years old - Yuko's Angels.

After much thought, Yuko had decided to open her own orphanage. She wanted to save as many children as she could, just like she wished she was saved when she was little. Her business gave her a purpose, and so did being a mom. Yuko never imagined this would be her life.

In the midst of typing on her phone, a call interrupted her. Candice, aka Candy, was calling. She answered immediately. She still loved a good keke with her home girl from the club.

"Hey girl," Yuko answered. "I haven't heard from you in a while."

"I know, girl, my bad. The shop has been whippin my behind. I'm just now leaving and it's late as hell. I couldn't forget to call and wish you a happy one year on your business."

"Thank you kindly," she giggled.

"You're welcome. What are you up to right now?"

"Jet and I are taking Jax on his morning walk. He's obsessed with the pond in the park. The boy thinks he's part frog."

Candy doubled over in laughter.
"Hold up. Am I psychic?" she stopped laughing abruptly.

"What do you mean?"

"Three years ago, when you showed up to my house in distress. That morning I cooked you breakfast and told you that one day, you would be -"

"Living in a boujee ass place where I wake up and take walks to the pond," Yuko finished her sentence. She laughed in disbelief. "Wow. Maybe you are psychic."

"Mhhmm. Let me call my momma and tell her to play her numbers first thing in the morning. I'm feeling lucky!"

"Alright now girl. Love you. Call me tomorrow!"

"I will! Love you!"

Yuko disconnected the call, still giggling at her friend. She tucked away her phone and caught up with her family.

"What's so funny?" Jetson smirked at her.

"Oh nothing. Just laughing at life. It's funny, sometimes...how things work out."

"Yeah...it sure is."

Yuko smiled as she grabbed her son's hand. Finally, she knew happiness. She knew love. Most importantly, she knew peace - and boy, was it sweet.
