The night sky was studded with stars, and the nightlife in the Imperial Capital was just beginning.

“Where else would you like to go?” Mu Mingcheng checked the time, standing by the car door with one hand in his pocket, and asked.

As soon as they left Yu Qing Pavilion, he put his glasses back on, adopting his usual harmless, elite demeanor.

He figured that no matter how mature Gu Jin was, she was still a twenty-year-old girl. Going shopping together could be a good way to develop their relationship.

Gu Jin found Mu Mingcheng’s handsome face, so close, very pleasing to the eye. The slight stomach ache she had from the spicy food had eased up considerably.

Normally, Gu Jin would refuse.

But since she had promised Cheng Xin in the morning to attend the Jing family’s party in three days, Gu Jin needed to prepare a dress for the occasion.

The dresses in the original owner’s closet were outdated since they hadn’t been worn for a while. Gu Jin planned to buy a few new ones at the mall. She didn’t need to make a spectacular impression but didn’t want to embarrass herself either.

With things to do over the next two days, and since she was out today, she decided to buy the clothes now to avoid making another trip.

And it would give Mu Mingcheng a taste of the “wonderful” experience of shopping with a woman.

So, Gu Jin nodded and was about to say, “I want to go to the mall to buy a few clothes.”

At that moment, Fang Assistant, who had been missing during lunch, and the low-profile, burly driver appeared.

“Sir.”

Fang Assistant stepped forward, glancing at Gu Jin, and hesitated to speak.

Gu Jin’s words were abruptly cut off. Sensing the situation, she turned her head and pointed to a few potted flowers at the door, saying with a smile, “These flowers are quite rare. My dad loves to play with plants. I’ll go take a look and broaden my horizons.”

Mu Mingcheng pulled her arm gently, his eyes behind the gold-rimmed glasses gleaming, and said indulgently, “Professor Gu likes flowers. I’ll have Fang Assistant arrange for a few to be sent to you later as a token of my respect.”

He then turned his cold gaze to Fang Assistant. “If you have something to say, say it directly. What’s with the hesitation?”

“Yes.” Fang Assistant, recovering from his surprise, straightened his face. “Young Master Xu called and asked you to come to the Xu family’s residence right now.”

The gold-rimmed glasses flashed with a dark cold light. Mu Mingcheng sneered, “Did he say what it’s about?”

“Young Master Xu didn’t specify, but I inquired with the Xu family, and it seems that Old Master Xu is ill and wants to speak with you.”

Fang Assistant glanced discreetly at the few green rose bushes at the door, noting that aside from their unusual color, they were otherwise unremarkable.

Even someone from a powerful family like the Mu family, or even Professor Gu from the Gu family, would have seen such flowers before.

No wonder Mu Mingcheng had his eyes on her—she was indeed impressive, and her ability to navigate the situation was remarkable.

Looking at the gentle woman in front of him, Fang Assistant mentally revised his assessment of Gu Jin’s status.

Gu Jin glanced at the clear reflection of Mu Mingcheng’s stern face in the car window. His face rarely showed emotions, and he was known for his ability to smile while delivering a knife to someone’s back.
