When Gu Jin returned to school, it was still early.

The car stopped downstairs at the dormitory building. Gu Jin thanked Old Liu and was about to head inside with her small suitcase.

"Miss Gu, please wait a moment." Old Liu emerged from the car and retrieved another box from the trunk. "This is a gift from the young master."

Gu Jin put down her suitcase and took the slightly ornate box from Old Liu. It felt quite heavy, and she was curious about its contents.

She carried the items back to her dormitory in two trips. Fortunately, the dormitory was only on the second floor, so it wasn’t too strenuous.

The dorm was quiet, and her roommate, Shang Jiayu, wasn’t there.

Gu Jin placed the items haphazardly, skipped her shower, and threw herself onto the bed, exhausted.

She slept very soundly, and when she woke up, the room was almost pitch dark.

Stretching lazily, Gu Jin checked her phone: it was 7:20 PM.

She got out of bed and found a dinner waiting on the table, with a note pressed under the utensils:

"I didn't wake you because you were sleeping so soundly. Here's your dinner. Remember to eat~"

Among the few people who could enter the dorm, besides her roommate Shang Jiayu, no one else mattered. Though it was a small gesture, it reflected whether someone was worth befriending. Gu Jin smiled at the note, touched by her roommate’s thoughtfulness.

To be honest, in this world, the people who didn't appear in the book were quite normal.

After dinner, Gu Jin made a phone call home.

In the past few days, she had greatly reduced her contact with her family to avoid them discovering her secret trip abroad.

Her younger brother, Gu Teng, was pitifully left with no one to vent to about a certain troublesome person. Family matters should stay within the family, so only his older sister could listen to his complaints. However, his sister had abandoned him for a trip.

Finally catching a break, Gu Teng seized the opportunity to complain to Gu Jin:

"Sis, you wouldn't believe how disgusting Gu Ling is."

Gu Jin raised her eyebrows, turning down the volume of the funny variety show on her computer to show consideration. "What happened this time?"

As a good listener, asking this way usually encourages the speaker to share more.

Sure enough, Gu Teng immediately became indignant. "Remember how Grandma wanted Dad and Mom to send her to college, but they refused?"

Gu Jin responded with an "mm-hmm."

"I don't know what she was thinking, insisting on working part-time. She didn’t even say what job she got. These days, she’s gotten all high and mighty, looking down on everyone..." Gu Teng said, sneering in disdain.

After listening to Gu Teng’s complaints, Gu Jin reassured him a bit, suggesting he should go out and travel to relieve his stress instead of staying home all day playing on the computer.

Being cooped up at home all day with the same people around, any minor incident can become magnified, causing unnecessary distress.

Gu Ling was a troublesome person, constantly focusing on her mistakes and making things difficult for her.

After Gu Teng finished venting, he felt much better. Hearing her suggestion, he retorted, "Do you think I want to stay at home? If I weren’t waiting for you to be free, I’d have gone out by now." He had no intention of stooping to Gu Ling’s level.
