As the only girl of her generation in the Jing family, even though Jing Ruo wasn't biologically related to them, the Jing family genuinely adored her. When she returned from abroad, the Jing family not only held a private welcome banquet for her, but they also went all out by hosting it at the most luxurious hotel in the capital, Jin Nian Hotel.
Given the Jing family's current meteoric rise, most of the notable people in the capital were expected to attend.
Gu Jin had eaten something light beforehand because at such high-end banquets, eating too much not only invites ridicule but also affects how one looks in their fitted dress.
It took her over an hour to get ready, putting great effort into her appearance.
In her mind, she was only going to the event to blend in and didn’t need to stand out too much, just enough to not lose face. It wouldn't do to outshine the host.
But now, as she touched the dress in her hands, she sighed.
The dress, along with matching accessories, shoes, and jewelry, had been sent over by Mu Mingcheng. The whole outfit easily cost several million. It made it hard for her to keep a low profile.
However, she had to admit the outfit matched her taste perfectly. After putting on the dress and spinning around in front of the mirror, Gu Jin sighed—it was a sweet yet troubling dilemma.
At 6 p.m., as the sky darkened, Gu Jin walked out of her apartment building.
The sound of her high heels clicking on the stairs echoed as she clutched her white clutch, wondering to herself what kind of mood Mu Mingcheng had been in when he sent over these 10-centimeter heels.
Downstairs, a black sedan was already waiting, exuding an understated yet extreme luxury.
Gu Jin paused, adjusted her expression, and continued.
As she approached, the car door opened, and the driver, Mr. Liu, who had met Gu Jin once before, stepped out.
"Miss Gu, Mr. Mu had an urgent matter come up and asked me to take you there first. He’ll join you shortly," the driver said straightforwardly, keeping his gaze fixed ahead, not at all fazed by the stunning beauty before him.
"No problem," Gu Jin smiled as she got into the back seat. "Thank you, Brother Liu."
"How long have you been working with Mr. Mu?" she asked suddenly.
"About five years now," Liu replied, focused on driving.
Five years!
Gu Jin mused, Mu Mingcheng had only taken over the Mu family business three years ago.
As the car smoothly made its way forward, the wide roads of the capital were clogged with endless traffic during rush hour. Even though they were in a car with the performance of a sports car, they were still stuck in the jam.
Cheng Xin called to hurry her up, "Xiao Jin, the banquet is about to start. Why aren’t you here yet?"
"There's a bit of traffic. I should be there in about ten minutes," Gu Jin replied after asking the driver.
"Alright, hurry up and call me when you get here."
Ten minutes later, the car arrived at the banquet venue.
Gu Jin stepped out and made her way to the hotel.
At the entrance, the banquet hadn't started yet. After showing her invitation to the doorman, she went straight in.
The grand hall was bustling with people. Several layers of luxurious crystal chandeliers sparkled, and many guests had already arrived. Under the bright lights, the room was filled with elegance, sophistication, and lively conversation.
