12. Numb

I was numb. Completely numb.

After the berg flew away I stayed all night in the exact spot Theresa stood when she called WCKD. I cried so much I almost ran out of tears. I just starred to nothing. My mind was only on Minho.

Newt's Pov

We all looked into her direction. She stayed there all night without moving at all.

"I'll talk to her."

"You sure Newt?" Brenda asked

" I lost Sonya, she lost Minho Aris and Sonya. I'm pretty sure."

When I reached there, I looked at her, and God help me she looked horrible. Red nose, red watery eyes, face stained with tears. In her hands was one of Minho's bracelet that he gave her before we found Marcus.

"Go away.." she said quiet

Still, I sat next to her and she immediately fell into my arms but she didn't cry. I don't think had any tears left.

"I'm sorry I didn't help you guys to burry the bodies and cleaned up a bit." she whispered

"Don't say that Leah, we all understand you okay? You lost 3 people that you love it's okay."

"But you lost your sister and Minho.. Harriet lost Aris and her, Thomas and Fry lost Minho... and I was the only one to stay all night and cry." she finally cried again.

"Because this is how YOU deal with pain love. You think they didn't cry?"

She sniffed then looks at me " I feel so useless now."

"But you're not. You're not and you never were-"

"But still I couldn't save Lisa or Winston or Minho.."

"Leah look at me. Winston was infected with a virus that we don't know the cure for, I saw you took care of him and you're a great medic. So if you couldn't save your sister that means the wounds were to serious. And Minho... I saw you protected each other last night. It's not your fault. None of this isn't. Okay?" I forced her to look me in the eyes.

After this I saw the acception in her eyes "Thank you Newt, I needed that." She then hugged me.

We left the spot and we went to the others. They all looked at Leah and gave her a sad smile.

"I talked with Leah and I told her that it's okay she didn't helped us last night cleaned up, right guys?"

"Yeah"
"Of course Leah"
"Don't worry about that hija"

"Okay, thank you."

"Come with me Le you have to eat something. How about a shower after?" Harriet took her arm gently. "That would be nice."

They left "She really believed that we are mad at her for not helping us out..?" Thomas asked

"Yeah. She said she felt useless."

"Well she's not." Brenda said and the others nod.

After a shower and a hot meal I was feeling better. I brought myself together, tied my hair into a high ponytail and I put Minho's bracelet on my right wrist. Come on Leah, you got this.

I went to the group and they smiled at me.

"What now?" Fry asked

"We stick to the original plan. We leave and we will bring you kids to the Safe Heaven." Vince said.

"What?" i asked

"Girl look around you. They kicked our ass."

"We can't leave them there. Minho,Sonya,Aris, the other kids they took."

"Leah's right." We all turned to Thomas "I'm not going with you. I know it's impossible but we have to try. This isn't about Minho or Aris or Sonya. It's about all of them. I won't let them kill another kids. I'm not asking you to come with me. But they won't stop, so I'll stop them."

"I'm in." i said and all looked at me "No more deaths."

"We're in guys." Fry and Newt said.

"We too." Jorge and Brenda said.

"I'll like some revenge." Harriet smiled at me.

"Okay kids. So what's the plan Thomas?" Vince said.

In that moment Thomas looked at Leah then at Fry and Newt. He won't let them down. He won't let anyone down. Not Minho not Sonya not Aris no one. He would save Minho for Leah. Because he realized that without her trust and help they would've been still at WCKD. So he did that. He trust her.

And she trust him.
