Chapter 18: Shadows of danger
As I entered, I felt a heavy sigh escape my lips. Although I was grateful to Daniel for the ride, my thoughts immediately turned back to Namjoon and his stubbornness. His disbelief in me was like a heavy burden I carried with me.
I closed the door and walked to the living room, where the air immediately felt lighter and safer. Jennie looked at me questioningly, knowing perfectly well that something was still on my mind.
"How did it go?" Lisa asked as I kicked off my shoes and headed towards the couch.
"Not well", I answered and sat tiredly on the sofa. "Namjoon doesn't believe me. He thinks Karina has changed, and I should leave it at that."
Lisa shook her head and poured us glasses of water. "He doesn't understand what the risks are. Karina is not trustworthy, and you know that better than anyone."
I nodded and drank some water. "I have to monitor the situation. I won't let Namjoon suffer again."
"How are you going to do it?" Jisoo asked, sitting down on the sofa next to me.
"I have a few friends who can help. They can monitor Karina and report to me if anything suspicious happens."
Jennie nodded in agreement. "Good idea. We have to be on our guard."
I was getting ready to continue the conversation, and my phone rang. I looked at the screen and saw Jungkook's name. Did he want to call and laugh at me after all this, or what was it all about?
"Why is he calling now?" Jennie asked when I answered the phone.
"Y/n, you need to come here right now," Jungkook's voice sounded distressed. "Namjoon is in trouble. He is with Karina, and the situation is getting out of hand."
I got up hurriedly, my heart pounding. "Where are you?"
"We are in an old warehouse on the edge of town. Karina has brought a crowd that didn't look very friendly. I was afraid this could get bad."
"I'm coming," I said and ended the call. I turned to the girls, who were already grabbing their coats. "We have to go now. Namjoon is in danger."
The others nodded gravely, and we rushed out of the apartment. By some miracle, after calling us, I got a ride from an acquaintance who owed me money. I don't want to call Daniel back and get him involved.
The trip felt like forever, even though I knew it was only a short drive. Thousands of thoughts and fears were running through my mind. What the hell was going on? How had they managed to go to another place and that the situation was what it was? What if this was a plot? I was confused, but I won't let that bitch hurt Namjoon.
We arrived at the warehouse and immediately saw a crowd of people outside. Karina stood in the middle, surrounded by a bunch of tough-looking guys. Namjoon was in the middle of them, and the situation looked tense.
"What is happening?" I asked as Jungkook came up to us.
"Karina claims that Namjoon owes her something. This has gotten really weird," Jungkook explained.
"I have to go to him," I said firmly.
"Be careful," Jennie warned but nodded in understanding.
I walked towards Namjoon and Karina, who turned when she saw me. She had a triumphant smile on her face that made my blood boil.
"What are you doing here, Y/n?" Karina asked, her voice filled with contempt.
"We came to pick Namjoon up," I said firmly. "He doesn't belong here, and he doesn't owe you anything."
