Chapter 18: Some things just dont work out

(Natalies pov)

I see Riley and Ian walk over. I stand up awkwardly.

"Natalie, what happened" Riley asks

"I don't know. I just. We were at the park just talking and I broke up with him and he left and then I just heard this crash and" I trail off and Riley pulls me into a hug. "They won't let me go in. They're trying to reach his parents but..."

"You guys broke up?" Ian asks

"Ian. That is not the focus right now!! " Riley punches him

A nurse rushes out and takes off her gloves. Ian rushes to ask if he's okay while Riley and I stay sitting

"This is all my fault" I said

"No. It isn't. You can't do that to yourself," Riley says to me.

"But if I hadn't broken up with him-"

"You don't know that" Riley cuts me off.

Ian finishes talking to the nurse and comes over here. He tells us that Thomas isn't doing too well.
The way things are going he won't survive.

"We should go home and rest. It's pretty late" he tells us.

"Okay, you guys can go, I just need a second" I tell him

They leave and my eyes are getting really heavy. I wake up to a nurse tapping me on the shoulder. She sat down next to me and I bolt up.

"One of the paramedics told me you said this was your fault" she looked at me with what I can only assume to be pity " I just want you to know, you couldn't have stopped this. We think your friend had a seizure. That's what caused his car to crash"

"Is he okay?" Are the only words I can form

The nurses face drops. "He.. didn't make it. We tried our be-"

"WELL YOU DIDNT TRY HARD ENOUGH" I yell and run out of the building.

The sun seems to just be rising. I walk down the hill. I don't know where I'm going but anywhere other than here would be fine. The suns starts to get in my eyes and I can't breathe. It's like my heart is in my throat, stopping any oxygen from getting in.
