Chapter 5

Throughout the weekend Danny and Jay did not speak to each other, the fear, shame and perplexity were so strong and it was eating them on the inside. They felt like the ground should open and swallow them whole.

It was Monday morning and no matter how they avoided each other they had to see each other in school and that made things more and more complicated.

"Dan c'mon we are late for school hurry up" said Bonnie as she knocked on the door.

"Chill out I'm coming" he yelled reluctantly. All he could think of was how he was going to pick Jay without feeling awkward.

Meanwhile, Jay was ready for school, putting on an ash-colored sweatshirt and blue jeans.
He ate his breakfast and was about to leave.

"Won't you wait for Danny to come pick you up? asked his mom
"No Mom I have something urgent I have to take care of in school"

" Is everything okay baby? Throughout the weekend you didn't go over to Danny's place and he didn't come over and now you are going to school alone I mean you never go to school alone, she said curiously.

When Jay's parents wanted to get him a car on his 17th birthday he refused, because he enjoyed driving to school in Danny's car, just sitting in the front seat enjoying conversations while Bonnie groans and makes complaints in the back seat.

Mom everything is fine, we are cool he replied as he walked out the door to take his bike.

Okay baby take care and she waved him goodbye.

Danny and Bonnie got into the car and Bonnie received a text message

" uhm Jay said we shouldn't bother picking him up that he's already in school Bonnie said looking at the text like she just received the most unbelievable message.

Oh great replied Danny with a sigh of relief.

Uhm I don't understand are you guys having a fight or what cause why are you happy, what's happening Bonnie asked.

Nothing happened and mind your business, he just said we shouldn't bother probably he had something he wanted to do in school this morning Danny said as he started the car.

"Uhm okay if you say so"

In school, Claire walked up to Jay as he picked up his textbook from his locker.

Oh hi baby he said as he hugged and kissed her.

I didn't hear from you throughout the weekend, you didn't text or call or even reply to mine said Claire.

I'm so sorry my love a lot has been on my mind, we can go grab ice cream later after school he said and she smiled and said okay.

Danny and Bonnie walked through the Hallway and Danny sighted Jay immediately.

"Uhm I need to go get my assignment from someone said Danny and he ran off

Bonnie looked confused, she walked up to Jay

"Hey Jay I need to speak with you"
"Okay what's up Bon "
"What's up with you and Danny, you two seem off today"
"No we are fine, we are cool, did he say anything was wrong?
" No, but he saw you and he made this stupid excuse about an assignment and ran off"
"Hmm can't think of anything we are cool, come on Claire let's go"
"Okay won't you wait for him? You guys always walk to class together "
No, he will be fine, we need to go said Jay as he pulled Claire.

Claire was also surprised because there was no way on earth Jay would walk into the class without Danny. The three of them always walk in together since they are all in the same class.

Bonnie became more suspicious and she knew something was wrong, Danny and Jay had never been in an argument, and she was surprised that all of a sudden they were avoiding each other.

During lunch break, Bonnie decided to team up with Zack to figure out what was wrong with the boys.

" I mean these two have been friends for almost 11 years and I've never seen anything like this, their arguments never got past 20mins"
"Okay baby let's just give them a little time maybe they will work things out "
"I think they have been arguing during the weekend but I think you are right, let's give them time they will work things out"

All through the day Danny and Jay managed to stay out of each other's ways. They were able to keep it up for about three days but they kept having flashbacks about the whole thing and the fact that they still miss each other in all this chaos just made things worse.

Jay this is getting out of hand, you said you are fine but you look miserable, I can see you are also having a hard time sleeping at night and it's worse that you don't want to talk about what is going on between you and Dan, I mean you boys haven't fought this before, whatever it is you are grown-ups and I expect you to fix it not ignore each other and also your coach said something about you two losing focus at practice it's ridiculous" said his mother as she explains how important they are to each other.

Mom I wish I could tell you but I can't, but it's nothing serious I'll try to talk to him replied Jay.

Bonnie and Zack have given them enough time to make up but nothing has happened and Bonnie can see how Danny is having a hard time at home, he will get cranky and snap at her for no particular reason, so she decides to take matters into her own hands.

Okay Zack I can't watch this drama anymore we need to find what the problem is or how to make them talk to each other said Bonnie.

"Okay Bonnie we need to find the root of the problem, do you know when it all started?
"Well I don't know but the last time they were really together was at the quarterfinals after party"

"Okay, what happened after that did you see them argue or something?
" No actually, that night went well, they were pretty high, I drove them home, made them shower and then they went to bed I think"

"Okay, so Jay slept at your place and did he seem angry in the morning or did he go home angry?
"No" said Bonnie as she placed her index finger on her cheek indicating that she was thinking "Actually I never saw him leave and Dan told me he left early but thinking about it now Jay never ever leaves in the morning if he sleeps over, I mean he always stays for breakfast"

"Hmm that means something happened "
"Like what?, that they had a fight after I left them or what "
" what if they did something, I mean I'm gay, what will two high dudes do in a room all alone said Zack giving a slight smile and a wink"

Bonnie laughed and said "Stop it Zack with a laugh, I'm being serious here, My brother and his best friend are on no speaking terms and now his always up in my business and they are not gay we all know that.

Think about it Bonnie c'mon, that has to be the only answer, two so-called straight guys high in a room, did something they were not supposed to do and they panicked, so now they avoid each other to avoid awkwardness easy peasy.

When Zack said that, Bonnie's eyes widened, she didn't know what to feel at that moment

" oh my God, what if you are right? I can't even imagine "
"Only one way to find out"
"How?
" We set them to meet each other but we are going need Claire's help said Zack
" Alright" Bonnie replied with excitement in her eyes.
