I looked down at the small child in front of me and he looked back up at me, smiling and panting for breath. Adelaide had set him down for two seconds to drink some water and he sprinted off in all directions. Alex was blond and blue-eyed like his father, the resemblance to Kaden uncanny. It was a weird feeling: to grow up with someone and even have baby pictures with them at one year old.

Only for them to have a one-year-old of their own.

A familiar pair of delicate arms scooped him up and cradled him.

"I thought your mom told you not to run in the office building," Adelaide whispered to the child. Her voice was laced with concern, her perfectly groomed eyebrows creased ever so slightly. I looked down at the two before me. Adelaide had promised to watch Alex, Kaden and Lilliana's son, while Lilliana went to the bathroom for five minutes.

I smiled inwardly at the sight. Adelaide was very caring and generous and I could tell she liked watching after Alex. I would hear the two giggling outside my office door.

It wasn't long after Alex was born that Adelaide's mind started to drift towards having a pup of our own. I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little excited to have one too. She hadn't said anything directly but sometimes she would leave her phone open and I would see pictures of nurseries and baby clothes on this app called 'Pinterest' she liked to use.

She was so cute.

Alex mumbled something incoherent and Adelaide laughed before nuzzling her nose against Alex's. For a moment, I allowed myself to imagine that she was holding our child instead and I felt myself get oddly happy at the thought.

"Thank's Addy, you're the best," Lilliana walked back into the room. Alex's head snapped towards his mom at the sound of his voice.

"Mommy!" The child said excitedly, and started to wriggle in Adelaide's arms. She gently set him down and he went sprinting to his mom.

I heard my lovely little mate giggle softly and my heart warmed at the sound. I was never good with communicating my feelings, but I really did love her and I loved having her in my life.

The sound of a door opening brought my attention to the entrance of Kaden's office.

"Gabriel," he started, looking at me.

I nodded at him silently and walked towards him and into the office, despite everything telling me to stay with Adelaide.

I closed the door behind me and Kaden sat down in his chair. I could already tell what he was going to say. There had been a few rogues herding together in different areas. They weren't a huge threat but it was better to deal with them sooner than later and while we were successfully keeping the pack safe, we also had to travel. A lot.
