Aaron's eyelids, crusted over with dried tears, slowly peeled open and to his overwhelming relief, he was met with the welcoming sight of the gray streaked linoleum, each individual speck of dust upon it was illuminated by the early morning sunlight slanting in through the windows. He sighed, and the dust went flying up into the air, swirling around and then sprinkling back down like snow. For a moment he was mesmerized by the dancing little particles, until he accidentally breathed in a rather large mouthful and started coughing.

After a couple sneezes to clear out his system, Aaron sat up and stretched, rubbing his face to get rid of the crusted remains of last night's sobbing. He didn't remember how he fell asleep, but at some point his body must have just given up and shut down.

He noticed that an off-white blanket was still halfway covering him, and he smiled a little. Must've been Amelia.

Speaking of Amelia, she was just now stumbling out of her bedroom and down the hallway leading to the main room. The short, glass-encased teal candle was leaning on the wall for support, and her knees were wobbling from sheer exhaustion. She hadn't slept for a second, only laid there in a dreary haze the whole night.

But she was going to persevere, Bryce and Aaron needed her help...

When she turned the corner, she was happy to see Aaron sitting up, looking around in a calm manner, even smiling a little. But when she turned her attention towards the couch where Bryce had been laying...

... it was empty.

"Shoot!" Amelia muttered under her breath, rubbing her heavy eyelids as she stumbled back to her room to get her phone.

She rang Bryce's number and...

"The number you are trying to reach has been disconnected, please-" The automated voice was interrupted by Amelia hanging up. She let out a shaky, nervous breath, blinking rapidly as her muddled brain tried to think clearly.

Why would Bryce disconnect his line...?

Unless his phone got destroyed in a wreck...

Panicking, Amelia dialed 9-1-1.

"9-1-1, what's your emergency?"

"Y-yes! Um, my friend got drunk last night, and he left the apartment and now he isn't picking up! I think he might've gotten into a wreck!"

"Hmm..." The voice on the other side hummed, while typing something into a computer, "According to our records there were no major car accidents last night. Is there anything else I can help you with?"

Amelia sighed in immeasurable relief, but worry flooded back in just as quickly. Why would Bryce intentionally disconnect his phone??? "No, but thank you."

"You're welcome, have a good day."

"You too..." Amelia said weakly, her mind feeling disconnected from her body as she desperately tried to form just one cohesive thought. She hadn't felt this bad in weeks.

Aaron suddenly popped his head in the room, his wide bronze hood taking up most of the door's width. He was still carrying the blanket for some reason.

"H-hey, umm... B-B-Bryce is g-gone..." Aaron stuttered, he was gripping the doorframe and the blanket so tightly his knuckles were white, as if holding on tightly would prevent him from being sucked back into the bad memories.
