Lantern stared up at the sky, feeling the strangest feeling he had ever felt. A feeling so foreign, yet all too familiar. A feeling from so long ago. A time out of reach of his memory. A life that he once had that was no more, and never would be again.
Music made him feel light. His broken cassette player made him feel heavy. Seeing Backpack's dead body made him feel...
...empty...
Lantern looked around at the various objects scattered across the endlessly stretching Plane of green grass. The expressions on their faces varied, but none were smiling. As much as Lantern loved watching them play together, he wasn't sure he liked this game anymore...
But he still dreaded the thought of them leaving...
Their company was like the taste of another lifetime, a break from the monotony of the blank days. He... He just wanted Airy to like them too. But Lantern was beginning to realize that Airy didn't want them here. Lantern didn't like it when he yelled at the other objects.
He was torn. Torn between his attachment to Airy and his longing for the companionship of others. He had been here for years... and his brain had grown numb, but these newcomers gave him a taste of what it meant to feel something...
... he didn't want to give that up...
But right now the emptiness was consuming him inside, and too many thoughts were filling his head. Lantern was confused.
Tyler... Abstracty called him that...
...why did that sound familiar? Why did that make him hurt inside?
For the first time since he had arrived on Airy's Plane, Lantern began to wonder where he came from... but that was just one more thought on top the overwhelming pile already amassing in his head. Lantern clutched his glass globe, whimpering slightly as the pressure built up, rising into a headache.
Stone watched the child from a distance, guilt filling his gaze. The poor thing had been trapped here far too long... He didn't even realize he was trapped. A tragic situation.
But the solution was far from perfect...
So many scenarios and their outcomes played through Stone's head, but in the end he knew that there was only one 'good' option. Though it did come with it's complications...
"Hey... Airy..." Lantern called out, his voice small and trembling slightly.
Scenty and Bryce turned fearfully, worried that he was about to ask Airy to start the next challenge. The same thought was running through all of the contestants' heads...
...who would Airy kill next?
"Yeah?" Airy answered, wondering why Lantern didn't sound normal. He hadn't gotten hurt... so what could possibly be upsetting him?
"I'm... tired..." Lantern swallowed hard, staring at the ground.
"Oh... ok." Airy sighed in relief, thankful that was all that was wrong. He focused, and the light in his head flicked off, plunging the Plane into the darkness of the endless void surrounding Airy.
