The Protector's Will ~ Chapter 27

 "Ugh... my head hurts..." Tails groaned. Sonic and Knuckles kept a check on Tails as Mario kept staring around.

Mario sighed, "We better get going. Otherwise, we're never going to get much further in our journey."

"Vivian City isn't too far off. I think," Alcryst muttered. He started to walk ahead as Tails followed after him. Alcryst kept watch of everything and continued going down the path. "Vivian City is a safe haven for anyone who hasn't been infected. It has precautions in mind for anyone who is."

Chrom sighed, "That's good to know. Are things doing okay in Brodia?"

"I don't know..." Alcryst muttered. "I am worried about Diamant the most. I begged him to come but he refused to! I'm such a horrible sibling for not pushing him to actually listen to me..."

"Alcryst you did what you could, please don't feel sorrowful about this!" Marianne yelled. Alcryst stood there staring at her and took a deep breath. "We're all trying to survive and I'm certain Diamant wanted to help as many people escape. Whether he is infected or not... we don't know." Alcryst continued staring at Marianne and looked down at himself in sadness. He was unsure of what to do and just continued walking. Tails was checking his GPS when he noticed the light was flashing red. He took a closer look and it turns out...

There was a threat on the horizon. Nobody knew what it was but it seemed to be serious and deadly. Tails looked around and soon everyone stopped once they noticed how frantic Tails was. Tails continued looking around but soon there was a giant whoosh in the distance. "I knew it..." Tails looked at his GPS and took out his tracker. There everything was put together, the two protector gods had appeared.

Sonic asked, "Empress Jade and Emperor Ruby!?" The heroes all stood there staring as they landed on the ground. They weren't wearing their usual technology goggles. But instead they showed their faces, void of complete emotion and they had a still reaction on their face. "Are... Are they dead...?"

"Nah, they're very much alive. But they don't want to show any sort of emotion..." Knuckles grunted as he got ready. Sonic looked toward them as they kept their blank stares. Then Ruby took out a sword.

Ruby groaned, "You will... all die here... each and every single... pathetic hero..." Jade took out her lance as the heroes all stared at them.

"They sound... completely dead. They might as well be walking corpses," Byleth muttered. The heroes all nodded in agreement as Ruby kept his eyes locked on Mario. While Jade had her eyes set on Sonic. Each of them got ready and soon the heroes all took out their weapons.

"They're going for the attack..." Tails whispered. The heroes all looked over and Ruby rushed over to attack Mario. Sonic dashed in and kicked the sword away. Ruby glared at him and threw a spell. However, Byleth quickly jumped in and blocked it for Sonic. Jade dashed over toward the group and slammed her lance on Byleth. He fell forward as bullets were shot from Shuichi's gun. Agent 4 and Agent 8 jumped into the air together and slammed their brushes against Jade. She fell toward the ground as Knuckles dashed for a punch.

Mario quickly got up and went to assist Jade. However, Ruby threw another spell at the group. Mario slammed onto the ground as Alcryst dashed over to defend him. Mario slowly got up but soon Luigi threw several fire balls at the god. Ruby looked at each of the heroes as they prepared to defend themselves. Soon Time appeared.

Chrom asked, "What is it now?"

"More heroes are going to be unlocking the special abilities I have prepared for them," Time muttered. Chrom nodded as he dashed ahead. Mario got a fire sword prepared and slammed it against Ruby alongside the help of Chrom. Ruby fell right onto the ground as Jade jumped in front of him and put a shield around them. The heroes all stood there staring at the gods.

Jade muttered, "None of you have the power to defeat us. We're your gods... you're supposed to obey each and every single one of us..." The heroes continued staring at them as Ruby slowly got up. Kirby dashed in and out of nowhere pulled out a bag filled with copy abilities. Kirby was shocked but was quick to utilize it. He grabbed the fire ability and started blowing flames against the shield. Jade kept as much force against it as the rest of the heroes continued to break the shield. Mario went into help as well.

Sonic spun up and then soon pulled out a lightning lance. Chrom watched as Sonic stabbed the lightning lance on top of the shield. Jade watched in horror as Sonic started pushing it down. Link took out an arrow and it quickly became a fire arrow. After shooting it, the shield had successfully broken. The heroes all kept staring as Jade looked at each of the heroes. Jade took a deep breath and spun her lance around. Ruby was still recovering while Jade was refusing to back down.

Jade grunted, "No matter what ends up happening. I won't let any of you WIN!" The heroes kept staring at her. Link took out another arrow and it became a bomb arrow. He shot it and Jade was struck by the explosion. She fell backward and noticed Ruby was bleeding. "You heroes must be disappointed in yourselves. You're all trying to prove your worth when it will never work. The goddess is disappointed in you all and I am as well."

Sonic yelled, "The goddess can be pissed, who cares?! She sure as hell doesn't care about us!" The heroes nodded in agreement as Sonic threw another lightning lance. It struck Jade's hand and she yelled in pain. The heroes stared at her as Jade was trying to stay together, but the pain in her hand was severe and was getting through to her.

"I won't... DIE HERE!!" Jade screamed. Ruby had finally gotten up and noticed the state Jade was in. He quickly took out his sword again as he proceeded to rush at the heroes. They all watched him as Knuckles dashed over. His fists had lit on fight as he punched Ruby right in the gut. Knuckles stared at him in disbelief as he noticed his fists were on fire.

Tails asked, "W-What is going on!? It seems like everyone is getting new powers left and right!" The heroes looked toward Tails as he looked at the gods again. Ruby grabbed his stomach and coughed out some blood. The heroes kept a firm grip on their weapons or kept a strong stance.

Ruby grunted, "You're all powerful beings... But I refuse to allow you to take me down so easily. We have one duty and that is to protect Dawn from all forces of evil."

"If that was the case, then how come you're fighting against US!?" Furina shouted. She dashed ahead as Neuvillette followed her. Furina got her sword ready as Neuvillette stopped back and started creating a spell. Sonic dashed by as Furina slammed her sword against Ruby. Alongside her, Sonic had struck a lightning sword directly through Ruby. He fell toward the ground and grabbed his chest in pain. The heroes rushed over as Neuvillette threw the spell at Ruby. Ruby was on the ground in pain.

Chrom asked, "Ruby... What do you gain from destroying the world? Do you know who the person behind the events are?" Ruby refused to give a response as he continued staring at the heroes. "I take your answer as a refusal request..."

Ruby grunted, "You heroes will not gain an answer from me. As all of you have proven how worthless and utterly pathetic each and every single one of you guys are... you're weak and can't protect the world." Ruby stared at the heroes one last time as he dropped toward the ground. The heroes all froze as Jade got up, after witnessing Ruby die she began to act. She dashed at the heroes in a fit of rage. Sonic and Mario got their weapons ready together. But soon Shea dashed in and swung her two swords. Together they unleashed a giant wind and stunned Jade. Which allowed the two to jump in and strike Jade in the chest.

She fell toward the ground and died soon after that. The heroes all stood there staring at the gods. "We really did do that huh?" Sonic grabbed his head as the rest of the heroes had nothing else to say. They were shocked by their own efforts but at the same time couldn't help but feel guilty. Ruby and Jade were puppets of the true evil behind the events.

Chrom grunted, "Once we figure out whoever the hell is responsible for these events. I will ensure that we will avenge all the innocent people that have died." The heroes all nodded in agreement but they couldn't move from where they were. They just felt... disappointment all around. Confused and conflicted of how they should feel about the victory.
