The silence was loud, Chrom was watching over the hour shift. Mario did the first, Sonic did second and Lumine did the third. It was officially 1 o'clock in the morning. Silence, the forest was silent. There was nothing, not the sounds of crickets chirping. Eerie silence, but there was the simple sound of the campfire burning. Chrom looked toward the lake, it was just still. But he could sense the water was making a sound. The water was softly moving. For the first time, Chrom felt at ease with everything. Not with how his body looked but just the fact they were able to rest.
That's what they wanted all along after an entire week of running and being terrified of nearly everyone that surrounds them. They were on a road, but peace was always welcomed. It was all familiar to the heroes, it made them believe that everything was going to be okay in the end. Mario was terrified about what to do. That's what roamed around in Chrom's head. Chrom continued watching the purple sky. Reeked of pollution, despite being at ease the world was not.
Chrom muttered, "There's probably people dying out there right now. And we're the ones having peace and quiet." Chrom looked down at his legs and took a deep breath. He continued watching the clouds. Not a single star was in the sky. He looked down at himself and noticed someone was getting up. He looked over and realized it was Furina. "Furina?"
"Oh... did I get up too early? Jeez this ground is the most uncomfortable feeling in the world," Furina groaned. Chrom chuckled as he continued watching the surrounding nature. "How was your shift?"
"I just started..."
"It-It's not 2 o'clock!?" Furina asked. Chrom nodded as Furina quickly became a bit red.
Chrom replied, "Come along and sit by if you're not going to head back to sleep." Furina nodded as she walked over and sat on the opposite side of the campfire. "Nice to have someone else along. So how have you been feeling? Stressed out?"
"Definitely stressed out. I mean, I've been worried about our lives. The people and... myself. I've been putting this positive attitude but Kirby can do that on his own without... putting on a show," Furina muttered. She put her hands on her knees and just stared down at herself. "You're... aware of my story, aren't you?"
Chrom replied, "Yeah, I mean you told me a while ago. 500 years of being a fake archon. Just so Focalors could fool Celestia. How long ago was this?"
"About five years ago. I've been living my life out as a normal human being. It's been nice not to stress out about being the god of justice anymore. I feel at ease," Furina replied with a slight smile. Chrom nodded as Furina kept watching the fire. "I mean... you and I aren't too different."
"What do you mean?"
"Well obviously, I have that whole thing we discussed but our values, and feelings. We only recently became friends, alongside Shuichi. But the thing is. I have Neuvillette but never truly found someone I related to... until I met you. Remember our meeting?" Furina giggled.
Chrom laughed, "Oh definitely."
"Furina de Fontaine at your service! I am a performer!" Furina giggled. The heroes all stared at her in confusion. The other man next to her just seemed to say quiet. "And this is just a friend of mine! Neuvillette!" The heroes continued staring at her in confusion.
Kaede cheered, "Oh! A performer! How cool would that be?!"
"She seems to be okay at best..." Agent 4 muttered. Furina looked at Agent 4 in disbelief.
Furina asked, "Oh and are you capable of performing as well as I do?! No? Of course not!" She crossed her hands as Chrom chuckled.
Furina laughed, "I made quite the show of myself..." She turned red as Chrom giggled as well. But suddenly someone else was getting up.
"This is just so goddamn uncomfortable. I haven't slept for more than 30 minutes..." The person muttered. Furina and Chrom looked over and realized it was Shuichi. "Sorry about that, I'm trying to get comfortable."
"Ehhh... don't bother yourself over it. I mean you can sit with us if you want!" Furina cheered. Shuichi stared at them and soon just got up and walked over. He sat in between the two. "We were just discussing how we all met. I mean how you guys met me."
Chrom replied, "You made a good introduction of yourself. I know you were putting on a show there but, you really did introduce yourself well." Furina clapped as Shuichi just sat in confusion. "I remember while I was working with Mario over some plans, you and Kaede always performed together in the town square to keep people at bay and not worried about the situation."
Furina laughed, "It was quite fun I admit. Kaede... She was a sweet person. Oh- sorry about that Shuichi. I know you were especially deeply affected."
"No, don't worry about it. I know I was but that shouldn't stop you guys from discussing your good memories with her. I think about all the things we did together a lot," Shuichi replied. Furina gently smiled at Shuichi and then hugged him. "Please don't hug me."
"Oh pardon," Furina quickly let go of him and just smiled nervously at everyone else.
Chrom sighed, "Do you think... Tsumugi is also infected? I mean she vanished without a trace and none of the officers were able to find her. So I'm curious..."
"Maybe she was,"
"I just hope the next time I find her. She pays for everything she did on our wedding day..." Shuichi grabbed his knees and just started to silently cry. Furina and Chrom just stared at him as he just continued crying. Furina just couldn't resist but gave him a hug again. Soon Chrom went in and gave him a hug as well. "This was supposed to be the best day of our lives. And then it transformed into the worst of my entire life..." The two continued hugging him as Furina just looked towards the sky.
Furina sighed, "But... the next time we find Tsumugi. I promise you that there will be justice served! The police haven't found her yet but I promise you that we will! ...Okay?" Shuichi looked at her as she gently smiled at him. Shuichi just continued crying and went toward Furina for a full embrace. Chrom watched as Furina continued comforting him.
"It's going to be a long road ahead of us. As much as I want Tsumugi punished... that is not our main goal right now. We are going to try to save the world. The borders got shut down immediately and now nobody can leave or enter. I wonder how all the neighboring planets are feeling," Chrom sighed.
Furina replied, "Probably completely shocked over the fact the resort planet had to close the borders. Completely unaware of the true terror filling the world." Then Chrom froze. The end of Furina's sentence echoed through and back in his ears. True... terror. Chrom looked down at himself as the world around him started going dark and things were getting hazy. Chrom grabbed his legs and stared down at himself in stress. Walls closed in like they were any walls to begin with. This was their life now.
True Terror. True Terror. This is what defined their life until the fighting would end. But when will the fighting end?! There was no telling?! THERE WAS NO TELLING FOR ANYTHING. Chrom continued staring at himself and grabbed his head. He couldn't comprehend what was going on now. The words continued echoing and the echoing got louder and LOUDER. It was basically tearing his ears apart. But...
This was real life. Not some sort of dream, not some sort of fantasy nightmare. No this was real to everyone. True terror was inescapable.
