Dawn's True Destiny

AMBUSH!!!!! ~ Chapter 18

The heroes all jumped out of the van and immediately began fighting. The heroes were doing all they could to stay alive but nothing was working. The infected were fighting back hard. They were doing everything in their power to fight back.

"YOU HEROES SHALL FALL!" One shouted. They slammed a rock against Kirby and he bounced back. Kirby didn't have any copy abilities so he shot the rock out back at the person that attacked. Chrom looked at everyone and then took out his necklace. Suddenly, a light appeared and it went into Mario.

Mario asked, "W-What was that?!" He looked toward Chrom which Chrom ordered him to just fight. Mario bounced on the person and out of nowhere, he was able to summon a fire sword. He slammed it on top of the person and even he himself was in disbelief. The heroes continued fighting with their lives but there was an abundance of people surrounding them.

"EVERYONE! WE HAVE TO GET OUT OF HERE!" Chrom shouted. The heroes looked over and got ready to escape but they were still heavily surrounded. Mario used the fire weapons as an advantage and began throwing fire swords at everyone. Tails grabbed Sonic and flew into the air and spun around before launching Sonic at a crowd of people. Blood was beginning to fill the field. The heroes were now able to escape and made a run for it. Tails kept trying to find the location of the city on his GPS but it wasn't working.

"Do you think the place is blacklisted?!" Furina asked. Tails looked and suddenly, that was a possibility too. There was an easy chance the place was blacklisted to avoid anyone getting there. Tails started doing some different code onto his GPS as the heroes kept running. The crowd of people continued to chase them but they began to fight with one another. Which allowed everyone else to continue running.

"TAILS! YOU BETTER HURRY UP WITH THE SOLUTION!" Shea demanded. Tails kept on trying to work out the GPS to show the location of the city but it wouldn't. It continued to send him back to the area they already were. The heroes kept on running before they heard groups of footsteps behind them. Marth, Ephraim, and Ike were all chasing the heroes.

Sonic asked, "WHAT THE HELL DO THEY WANT?!" The heroes continued running and that's when Tails finally got a location to pop up on his GPS, he had successfully found the location of the city. But realized it was much further up than they thought.

"KEEP RUNNING AND DON'T GIVE THE THREE YOUR ATTENTION!" Tails shouted. The heroes continued running as Marth stopped.

Marth giggled, "We should focus on the crowd to chase them. The heroes would be destroyed once the crowd got too close..." Ephraim stared at him as Marth shouted through a megaphone. Suddenly, the crowd started chasing after the heroes within a flash. They weren't fighting anymore, they had an official goal. "Let's see how the heroes handle that!" He smiled widely as the same magician man appeared again.

"Great work, hopefully that will get the heroes killed... there's only a mere nineteen heroes... they won't compete with the crowd of thirty people... nearly double their amount..." The person said as he had a grin on his face. There was a scientist alongside him.

Marth replied, "Of course Magnus! I do all I can to ensure the heroes will be DESTROYED!" Magnus chuckled as Astrid just glared at the others. She had a distaste for them. Meanwhile, the heroes were still running as Tails was trying to lead them. But a crowd of people had begun to form behind them.

"That's... not good..." Tails muttered. The heroes all stopped and took out their weapons. The group of infected people got ready to attack the heroes. Tails started shooting from his ray gun as the rest of the heroes went for the attack. Chrom worked with Byleth and Mario to slash people away. They were getting blood all over their weapons. But they couldn't remorse. They had no choice but to push. The heroes continued fighting and the crowd had turned into five people.

Neuvillette muttered, "All these innocent people forced to work for the culprit behind this madness..." Furina nodded in agreement as Shea bolted ahead between the two. She slashed her sword through them and got rid of the rest of the crowd.

"Okay... that should be everything, is everything going to be a bit easier?" Shea asked as she walked over. Tails was checking over his GPS. The heroes got themselves cleaned and took a moment to just breathe.

"Okay so the location of the hidden city is up Northeast, it is a lot closer to Brodia than I expected. Of course since Lythos is separated by the ocean it's on the mainland. We better hurry," Tails explained as he showed everyone his GPS. They all nodded and started making a run for it. They were all exhausted but there was no time to stop. They had to keep on going, and they were going to find a way to safety. But they had running as their only form of transportation. There were no vehicles or anything. Just... their feet.

Kirby announced, "If we keep running we're all going to grow exhausted and we won't make it in time! We have to find a way to get there without using our legs! It'll take weeks to get there!" The heroes all stopped and looked at each other. The heroes had nothing else to say, they all froze there in silence. The pollution reeked the sky as the heroes even struggled to catch their breath using their masks. "What... Do you suggest we do Mario?" Mario looked at Kirby and at everyone else. Some were covered with blood, others were not.

He stood there in silence, unsure of what to even say. He just stared down at himself. And uttered the words, "I don't know..." toward everyone. Suddenly, people were shocked. People stared at each other as Luigi went to Mario's side and gently patted him on the back. "I wish I knew since, I'm the team leader and I should know! But I don't..." The heroes stared at him as Mario just stared down at himself.

Luigi replied, "Just because you're the team leader... doesn't always mean you have to have the answers... You're just guiding us..." Mario stared at him as he took off his hat in sorrow. The heroes were just completely unsure of where to go next. Obviously, the city was the main goal but where to go for serenity and safety? That was uncertain, and anywhere they could go. Could lead to their demise. All the heroes stood there staring at one another, silence filled the entire team.

Nothing, not a single word came out of any of the team's mouths. Not a word uttered. Mario continued staring at the floor and clenched his fist. "But all I know is this... we're going to kill the culprit behind this madness. I can guarantee that. But you will... never know for sure..." Mario looked down at himself as the heroes all nodded in agreement. Tails was still doing some research on his GPS. Trying to get the quickest route and the most efficient route for them to avoid as much danger as possible.

"If we're a field right now... this is a recipe for death. So I suggest we take a path through the forest. That way, when we set up a rest for the evening, we would be less likely to be attacked. Though I do think we should take turns staying up for the night. About one hour shifts to cover the night for everyone," Tails explained.

Maro replied, "Doesn't sound like a bad idea... we should do that then. Head into the forest and diverge a path from there." The heroes all nodded as they walked toward the nearby forest. The forest had a dark light already, but most of the leaves were beginning to die. They continued walking with the sounds of their feet crunching the leaves or stepping on the dirt. Tails kept guiding the group. But soon they found a lake.

"We should stop, we've been doing things for quite a while now and I'm beginning to get a bit sore," Furina explained. The other heroes nodded and Mario agreed to camp out by the lake. The heroes started getting to work, they had to make beds out of the fallen leaves and a campfire which wasn't difficult. Still, they had basically nothing. The heroes got themselves situated as Mario decided to watch over for the first hour. Nighttime came and everyone was fast asleep, except for Mario. Who catched the campfire and took one long deep sigh.

"When... will this nightmare end?"
