Ruhanika
The living room was dead silent. No one dared to utter a word. My heart was thumping loudly. This is what I feared. My first time sneaking out and I get caught. I closed my eyes in anticipation of what would happen. I didn't know how anyone would react to us sneaking out. I had no idea about the sort of punishments that are given in my family. And I didn't know how to ask them for forgiveness since I didn't know what could make them forgive me.
"Turn around" The cold voice ordered. We looked at each other from the corner of our eyes and slowly turned around to see who had caught us sneaking out of our own house like thieves.
It was Divyank Bhaiya.
He looked angry. I had seen him smiling, I had seen him calm, I had seen him annoyed and I had even seen him stern and cold but I had never seen him angry, so angry. As I was standing, I thought about all the explanations that I could give for sneaking out. I wondered whether it would be appropriate to say that I was bored and tired because I was locked in the house and wanted to go out. Should I make up a false excuse? But what excuse can help me come out of this situation? Should I say that My periods are going on and I had no pads so we were going to buy some pads. Wow! I have become so good at making excuses.
As soon as I decided to utter my brilliant excuse, Bhaiya intervened and said, "No use of making any excuses Anika. I want the truth." His words made me silent and left me wondering- How did he even know what I was going to do?
Bhaiya then looked at my brothers with a questioning gaze, and in turn, they started to fumble with their words. I was astonished to see my ever-confident and arrogant brothers fumbling under the gaze of my oldest brother. A laugh threatened to come out of me but I somehow controlled it not wanting to spoil the seriousness of this situation.
Armaan Bhai somehow said, "We are very sorry bhai. It's just that we thought Ruhanika was tired of being cooped into the house and then decided to take her out for a while." Their concern touched my heart but I was angry that he decided to throw me under the bus. I looked at Bhaiya to see that his eyes had softened listening to the reason.
Bhaiya then began a little softly, "I could have understood if it was Anika who wanted to sneak out, but I did not expect this from you guys. You were aware that the media has got a whiff of Anika." This was something that surprised me. I didn't expect the media to know about me. But I guess these are the cons of royalty. People will always watch your every move and judge you without even knowing the complete situation.
Bhaiya then continued, "But no matter what the reason was, you guys will be punished so that you don't try doing it again. I know that the boys run 5 laps of the training ground daily so Anika you will accompany them in the morning tomorrow I know that you boys don't even know an ounce of cooking so you will be assisting Anika in the kitchen tomorrow evening."
My brother groaned loudly. They must be thinking that one day of their vacation will be spent cooking with me. I am not that worried about my punishment because earlier whenever my cycle tire was punctured, I used to walk to school and sometimes when I was running late, I had even to run to reach school. So, it might be only a little difficult for me.
