Emma couldn't believe her luck as she stood on the sandy shore, gazing out at the breathtaking spot that would soon become her café. The location was perfect, nestled near a long sandbar that stretched out into the ocean, with waves gently lapping at the shore. The view was stunning—a panoramic display of nature's beauty, with the sun casting a golden glow over the water. The serenity of the place filled Emma with a deep sense of peace, and she knew she had found the perfect spot for her business.
The place needed some work—renovations to transform it into the cozy, inviting space she envisioned—but Emma was ready for the challenge. She had already taken the deal and was eager to dive into the process. The thought of building something from the ground up excited her, and she couldn't wait to see her dream come to life.
As she busied herself with business documents and plans, Emma's days were filled with meetings, phone calls, and brainstorming sessions. She had enlisted Jess as her interior designer, knowing that her friend's keen eye for detail would help bring her vision to life. Today, they were meeting at the site to go over some ideas, with Ashton tagging along as well.
"Can you believe this place?" Emma asked, turning to Jess with a smile. "It's even better than I imagined."
Jess nodded, taking in the view. "It's perfect, Em. This place is going to be a hit, I can already tell."
Emma grinned, her excitement bubbling over. "I can't wait to get started. Just a few renovations, and we'll be ready to go."
They discussed the plans in detail, with Jess sketching out ideas for the interior—warm, beachy tones, comfortable seating, and a relaxed vibe that would make the café a go-to spot for surfers and beachgoers. Ashton chimed in with suggestions, his support unwavering as always.
As they wrapped up the meeting, Ashton excused himself to use the restroom, leaving Emma and Jess alone for a moment. Jess, never one to shy away from the hard questions, turned to Emma with a curious look.
"So, what's the score between you two?" Jess asked, her tone casual but her eyes sharp.
Emma blinked, caught off guard. "What do you mean?"
"You and Ashton," Jess clarified. "You've been going out a lot lately, but you never talk about it. What's going on?"
Emma hesitated, not sure how to put her feelings into words. "We've been spending time together, yeah, but... he hasn't asked me anything. And I don't know if I'm ready for that."
Jess raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure it's not because you're stuck in the past?"
Emma looked down, Jess's words striking a chord. "I've moved on, Jess. I'm not holding on to Jake or anything like that."
Jess tilted her head, considering Emma's response. "Then why can't you and Ashton give each other a chance?"
Emma sighed, feeling a mix of emotions swirling inside her. "It's not that simple. I care about Ashton, a lot. But I'm scared, Jess. What if I'm not ready? What if I hurt him?"
Jess placed a reassuring hand on Emma's arm. "Em, no one's ever truly 'ready' for anything. You've been through a lot, but you've also grown. Ashton's been there for you through everything, and he cares about you. Maybe it's time to let yourself be happy."
Emma glanced toward the restroom, where Ashton would soon reappear. Her heart felt heavy with the weight of her uncertainty, but Jess's words made sense. She had been holding back, unsure of her feelings, but maybe it was time to let go of her fears and embrace the possibility of something new.
Before she could say anything else, Ashton returned, smiling as he rejoined them. "What did I miss?"
"Just some girl talk," Jess said with a wink, leaving Emma blushing slightly.
