Days turned into weeks, and Emma slowly settled back into her old routines. But there was one thing she hadn't done since returning home—something that had always brought her peace and joy: surfing.
One weekend, she and her friends decided to hit the beach, just like old times. The sun was shining, the waves were perfect, and Emma felt a thrill of excitement she hadn't experienced in years. It had been so long since she'd been on a board, and the thought of riding the waves again made her heart race.
As they arrived at the beach, Emma wasted no time. She grabbed her board, her feet sinking into the warm sand as she made her way to the water's edge. The ocean called to her, and she answered without hesitation, paddling out with a determination that surprised even herself.
The moment she caught her first wave, it was like coming home. She stood up on the board, her body moving instinctively with the rhythm of the sea. It was as if no time had passed at all, and she found herself dancing with the waves, her movements fluid and graceful.
From the shore, her friends cheered for her, their voices carrying over the roar of the ocean. "Go, Emma!" they shouted, their excitement contagious.
When she finally rode the wave back to shore, Emma couldn't wipe the grin off her face. She felt alive, invigorated like a part of her had been reawakened.
"I almost had control over the board," she said, laughing as she joined her friends on the sand.
Ryan, always quick with a compliment, grinned at her. "It was noticeable, Em. You were like dancing out there."
Emma blushed, a little embarrassed by the praise, but she couldn't deny the joy that filled her heart. It felt good to be back, to feel the water beneath her feet, and to share it with the people she cared about.
As the day wound down and the group began to pack up, Ashton approached her, a playful glint in his eye. "So, how about dinner tonight?" he asked casually.
Emma couldn't resist teasing him. "Like a date?" she asked, raising an eyebrow with a smirk.
Ashton chuckled, nodding. "Yeah, like a date."
Emma laughed, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. It was a simple invitation, but something about it felt different—special. "Alright," she agreed, her heart fluttering with a mix of excitement and anticipation. "Like a date."
As they headed back to their cars, Emma found herself smiling, the thought of dinner with Ashton lingering in her mind. It felt like the start of something new, something she wasn't quite ready to name yet, but she was willing to explore. And as the sun set on the horizon, she couldn't help but feel that maybe, just maybe, this was the beginning of a new chapter—one she was finally ready to embrace.

Weeks turned into months, and Emma slowly but surely found her footing again in Rivertown. The town that once felt like a distant memory was now becoming a place of familiarity and comfort. With each passing day, she grew more accustomed to the rhythm of her old life, yet everything seemed to carry a new sense of possibility.
Emma and Ashton's relationship had blossomed naturally. What started as casual dinners and surf sessions had evolved into something deeper. Their connection felt easy, and effortless. They'd go on dates often—sometimes to the cozy little diner by the pier, other times on long walks by the beach, where they'd talk about everything and nothing.
One sunny afternoon, Emma and Ashton were sitting at their usual spot, a secluded part of the beach where the waves crashed gently against the shore. They had just finished surfing, and the boards lay beside them in the sand, still glistening with seawater.
"I've been thinking," Emma began, her voice thoughtful as she gazed out at the ocean. "About starting my own business here."
Ashton turned to her, intrigued. "Oh? What kind of business?"
Emma's eyes sparkled with excitement as she shared her idea. "A café. But not just any café. I want it to be a spot for surfers and beachgoers—a place where they can relax, grab a coffee, and share stories about their time on the waves. Something laid-back, with good vibes and a welcoming atmosphere."
Ashton smiled, the idea resonating with him. "That sounds perfect for Rivertown. I can already see it—a place where everyone feels at home, just like you've always wanted."
Emma nodded, feeling her dream take shape in her mind. "I've been scouting for locations, and there's this spot near the south end of the beach that I think would be perfect. It's close enough to the surf, but also secluded enough to give it a cozy, tucked-away feeling."
"Sounds ideal," Ashton said, his tone encouraging. "Have you talked to anyone about it? Like permits and stuff?"
"Not yet," Emma admitted. "I'm still in the early stages of planning, but I'm excited. It feels like everything I've been working toward is finally coming together."
Ashton leaned back on his elbows, looking at her with admiration. "You know I'm here for you, right? Whatever you need, I'll help you make it happen."
Emma smiled, her heart swelling with gratitude. "I know, Ashton. And that means a lot to me. You've been there for me more times than I can count."
Ashton chuckled softly. "Well, you're kind of hard to resist," he teased, though his voice was sincere. "But, Emma, I want to see you succeed. This café, it's your dream. I want to be a part of making it come true."
Emma looked at him, her gaze softening. "You've already done so much, Ashton. I don't want you to feel like you have to put everything on hold for me."
"Hey," Ashton said, reaching out to take her hand in his. "I'm here because I want to be. And if that means canceling a few appointments or rearranging my schedule to help you find the perfect spot, then that's what I'll do."
Emma squeezed his hand, feeling the warmth of his words settle deep in her chest. "Thank you," she whispered. "For everything."
Ashton smiled, giving her hand a gentle squeeze in return. "Anytime."
They sat there in comfortable silence for a while, the waves filling the space between them. Moments like these made Emma realize how much she had come to rely on Ashton's presence in her life. He was her anchor, steady and reliable, always ready to support her no matter what.
As the sun began to dip lower in the sky, casting a golden glow over the water, Ashton broke the silence. "So, when do you want to start looking at that spot you mentioned?"
Emma's eyes lit up. "How about tomorrow? I can call the realtor in the morning."
"Perfect," Ashton agreed. "I'll clear my schedule."
Emma laughed softly. "You don't have to do that, you know."
"I want to," Ashton insisted, his tone light but firm. "Besides, what's more important than helping you build your dream?"
Emma felt a warmth spread through her, a feeling of contentment she hadn't experienced in a long time. "You're pretty amazing, you know that?"
Ashton shrugged, a playful smile on his lips. "I try."
Emma chuckled, leaning into him slightly as they watched the sunset over the horizon. The future felt bright, and full of promise, and for the first time in a long while, Emma was excited to see what it held. With Ashton by her side and her dreams within reach, she knew she was exactly where she was meant to be.
