Nothing much happened since Kitayuu had returned from Monstadt, he spent the remainder of his break studying for the weapon examination. The exam in question was not difficult which could be seen with everyone easily passing with satisfactory results. Not long after the day of choosing weapons arrived and every student grouped around at the training area, with a table having different types of weapons on it. They eagerly waited until Diluc arrived and exchanged greetings.

Diluc; “Now that you have obtained your licence, it is time to make a choice as to which weapon you would like to use for the future. Be sure to make the right choice for yourself as switching will only restart your progress.”

Kitayuu stared at the variety of weapons, unsure of what choice to make.

Diluc continued, “As you can see there are five basic types you can choose from: swords, bows, pole arms, claymores and catalysts”

Diluc then pointed at an information sheet containing information of each weapon type.

Sword

A basic blade suitable for slicing enemies and using combos, elemental infusions can help amplify the cutting power. Lots of skills development is required to master this weapon type.

Bow

A long ranged weapon using the combinations of a bow and arrow to pierce enemies, elemental infusion can be used to perform a powerful charged attack. Short spitfire attacks may also be used, but force of impact is normally weaker and is difficult to infuse elements into an attack, in exchange however you are able to fire a large quantity of attacks in a short period of time.

Polearm

A long spear like weapon with a sharp tip at the end, a wide variety of attacks come with this weapon ranging from slow critical hits to fast barrages of attacks. Elemental infusion can be used to amplify attacks.

Claymore

The largest and hardest hitting weapon out of the five but is only suited for those with good upper body strength and muscular endurance. The claymore has the slowest attack frequency, but deals lots of damage with each blow. Elemental infusion can be used to amplify attacks and depending on the element used, attacks can have a small explosive effect on impact.

Catalyst

The most complex item on this list, but also a popular choice. The catalyst amplifies elemental abilities and lets you fire off stronger attacks with decreased stamina consumption. All attacks are elemental as it is basically just the use of your own abilities without a weapon, but with a buff.

Diluc; “For those wondering about signature weapons. A separate examination is available for only second and third years. Unlike the basic exam this one is a lot more difficult with many graduates unable to obtain a signature weapon. Signature weapons allow for a custom made weapon suitable to your liking. Right now small changes can be made for your weapon of choice to suit your needs, but that is as far as it goes for now.”

It was a lot of information to take in and Kitayuu stood there rereading the information sheet many times, but after a while it was clear and obvious what he should choose.

Each student was given a sheet to tick off whichever weapon type they wanted along with a small space at the bottom for any requests and adjustments made.

Bennet; “Hey, what are you thinking of? I think a sword would be cool for me, just imagine a blade engulfed with flames being able to not just cut, but melt your enemies as well!”

Kitayuu took a moment to reply, “I think the best choice for me is the catalyst, because of my unique abilities”

Bennet; “Wow pretty ambitious, catalyst is definitely the hardest out of the five to master. I doubt it’ll be a problem for you though!”
