"Can we go out on a date while we're here?" Haein asked suddenly as they were heading back to their hotel.
"A date?" Hyunwoo was confused. That was a random request, but the interview that compelled him to fly all the way here replayed in his mind. She'd said she wanted to spend time with him and catch up like a normal couple, something they hadn't done in a long time. Now that they'd reconciled, it was perfectly natural that she wanted them to turn back time to become the loving couple they once were.
"I want to remember what it's like being just the two of us, the way it was before we got married and everything became a mess." She said, her eyes distant as if recalling something from the past.
"I wouldn't say that everything became a mess. We were still happy for a while." He said, his gaze softening. He didn't want to discredit their marriage like that. They'd both tried their best considering the circumstances, they just got lost along the way.
"But sure, we'll go on as many dates as you want while we're here. As long as you're happy." He tightened his grip around her fingers, their hands swinging between them as they strolled along the street towards their hotel. "Is there anything in particular that you wanna do tonight?"
"I wanna go to that restaurant that we loved the last time and drink that wine again. You said that it was the most delicious thing you've ever tasted other than my lips..." She trailed off, turning to face him. Hyunwoo's heart stuttered. Was it just him or did her lips look extra plump all of a sudden? He could have sworn that they looked normal earlier, but now, they looked... enticing.
"O- Okay. I'll make a reservation." He swallowed thickly, tearing his eyes away from his wife.
Damn, she really is beautiful.
...
"Haein ah, are you ready yet? You've been in there for a while." Hyunwoo called from outside the bathroom door.
He really shouldn't be surprised that she was taking so long to get ready. As the CEO of a department store, she really lived up to her name in terms of her impeccable fashion sense. She was aware of all the latest trends and was able to curate the most stunning outfits easily but as she always said, perfection takes time. On multiple occasions, he'd had to wait for her by the door for over twenty minutes because she hadn't deemed her outfit acceptable yet.
"Just a second. Can you help me put on this necklace? The clasp is a little stiff." He heard her voice through the door and knocked before entering.
His jaw dropped when he saw her. She was wearing the most gorgeous blood red silk dress that draped over her curves like one of those Greek statues he'd seen at museums. She'd done her makeup to match too, her lips the exact same shade of dark red as her dress. She looked every bit the opulent queen that she was, decked out in gold jewellery that shone with the tiniest movement.
Seeing him enter, Haein held out the necklace, her big innocent eyes staring at him. "Why? Is there something wrong with my outfit?"
"Ani! You look beautiful." He reassured her quickly, giving her a quick peck on the cheek.
"Thanks." She turned around facing the mirror, watching his expression through the reflection as he tried to help her put on the necklace.
Normally, Hyunwoo had one of the most stable hands having been accustomed to high stress situations often as a lawyer, but his hands trembled uncontrollably as he fumbled with the necklace, trying to ignore the expanse of milky skin on her shoulders that was screaming at him in his peripheral vision.
