Chapter 12

I was on the second floor of the dropship, sorting out the gun powder as everyone planted landmines outside. It was early morning, but it was still dark outside. I was sorting the gunpowder into separate cannisters.

I heard someone coming into the dropship, "Don't you think I want to go after them too?" It was Bellamy. He was talking to someone. I knew I shouldn't be eavesdropping, but I did anyway.

"You know what, you're lucky, Bellamy." I heard Jasper's voice.

"What?"

"You left your radio on yesterday. We heard what went on between you and Cassie." It went silent, I don't know how he managed to bring me into whatever they were talking about.

"She did everything that she could to save you. She almost got floated, and how do you repay her. By hating her."

"I didn't know any of—"

"Well, you know now." Jasper interrupted him, "And you've just completely cut her off."

"It's complicated, Jasper."

"No, it isn't."

"I can't, Jasper." He snapped. "I cared about her too much when I hated her. And now I-" I was at a loss for words, my heart felt like leaping out my chest. He didn't say much, but it was the most I've heard from him.

"What? Do you... like her?" Jasper asked him hesitantly. It was silent for a few seconds. I stopped doing my work, eagerly awaiting his answer.

"I don't know." That was his answer. At least it wasn't a 'no'.

"I just don't have time to like anyone Jasper, what if she dies. I would probably lose myself, I can't grieve anymore, I'm tired." He confessed. I wanted to go down that ladder and talk to him, tell him that he's not alone. Tell him that I'm not dying anytime soon. But I was frozen in my place.

"You're an idiot Bellamy. Anyone would want to spend their last few days loving someone, knowing that someone loves you. Instead, you decide to waste your chances on getting to be with Cassandra freaking Walker." Jasper said, "The amount of guys dying to be in your place and you don't even realise it."

"That just proves my point further, Bellamy. You're selfish. If it was you out there, you think Monty, Clarke, or Finn would hide behind these walls?"

"No, they'd go after me. Then they'd be dead, too. I'm doing what I think is right for the group." He said.

"It's funny. You didn't think that way when Octavia went missing." Jasper said to him.

"Where are you going?"

"More gunpowder for your minefield... sir." Jasper said as he climbed the ladder.

"How much did you hear?" He asked me.

"Too much." My back faced him as I stood there thinking, wrapping my head around what Bellamy was trying to say.

Jasper walked over to me, and I turned around, "Can I hug you?" I asked him. He nodded. I opened my arms and gave him a big hug. "Thank you, Jasper." I muttered. "For everything that you said."

"No problem." I pulled away from the hug. "May I get some more gunpowder?" He asked, smiling.

"Of course." I poured some of the gun powder into a cannister and closed the lid. "There you go. You're all set." I handed him the can. He thanked me before going down the ladder.

A few seconds went by before I heard a quick commotion downstairs. I put my stuff down and slowly made my way over to the hatch. I looked down to see Murphy pointing a gun at someone, presumably Jasper. I quickly move away from his line of sight. "Just put down the gun, Murphy." I hear Jasper say.
