– So you're awake? he asked.

She looked at him, wanting to know what the man who had saved her looked like. He had messy grey hair and eyes like two deep black holes sucking everything in. He frightened her, her hands were trembling slightly. There was something about this man that impressed her. She held her hands to her chest as he looked her up and down. She had a lump in her throat and couldn't speak. The man lowered his head to look into her eyes.

– Your name, he said.

She didn't move, didn't say anything. She bit her lower lip.

– Tell me your name.

– I... I don't know, I don't..., she began hoarsely.

From the way the man was looking at her, she wasn't sure he'd heard her. She repeated in a stronger voice, which she hoped would be less shaky.

– I don't have a name. Or maybe I don't remember it.

The man looked at her for a moment that seemed like an eternity.

– We'll get you a name later on.

"What? But it's not a problem that I don't have a memory? And there's no one to explain to me what's going on, where I am?"

– Take this, ordered the man.

– What ?

He handed her a silver chain with a blue pendant at the end.

– And what use is this to me? she asked in a small voice.

The man ignored her and turned his back. She frowned and, noticing that she still had the book in her hands, put it back on the desk with the mysterious pendant.

– Maybe I'll explain it to you later. For now, just wait here.

Frustrated, she watched the man leave. He paused only for a moment to whisper to her.

– By the way, my name is Arthur. Duke Arthur Silverwood.

Then he left the room, slamming the door behind him. She stood there for a moment, thinking.

"That man's a duke, then... Duke Arthur. Why didn't he explain anything more to me?'

– 'For now, just stay here,' she mumbled, imitating him. I'd like to understand!

She wondered when exactly someone would come and get her to explain things a little and answer her countless questions. She closed her eyes thoughtfully. She didn't know if she was naturally impatient before her amnesia, but this man had really exasperated her. As she tried to calm herself down, she glanced at the desk, where the pendant sparkled as if to remind her of its presence. She moved closer, wanting to examine it more closely, but then her gaze fell on the window.

"I'd forgotten about it, she said to herself. It might tell me more about where I am!"

Full of hope, she walked to the window and tried to open it, but noticed that it was double-locked, no doubt by the Duke to prevent her escape.

She was even more upset now, but also a little terrified. Very much so, actually. She had to content herself with sticking her nose to the window and looking through despite the fog. But what she saw did not fail to surprise her.

Through the window, she could see a gigantic forest with dancing fireflies and jagged peaks in the distance. To the right, she could see a lake reflecting the sky like a giant mirror.

She didn't recognise this landscape at all. She was lost. Why couldn't she remember anything? And she had the unpleasant feeling that she had forgotten something very important.
