And around the time Mr Wang became our form teacher, our school's performing arts showcase KCP Got Talent was going to hold auditions. I technically became the go-to when people asked me "so what's your item Crystal?"

My answer was always the same every time:

The moment for the audition rolled in sooner than I thought, and I was waiting outside the audition room sooner than I thought.

-

"So what are auditioning for?"

"Hate Rodrigo."

"OMG I LOVE THAT SONG."

"Crystal, all the best."

I got a lot of well wishes while I was cramming for my audition. I wanted to make sure I nailed down every move with my signature radiance. After all, having the honour to be in the snow was always a dream.

Flashback

A random guy started dancing with absolute sharpness to the beat, his moves filled with energy. Everyone screamed when a stunt was attempted, but it was just him and the music. He strategically paced around the stage and once he did, he'd pull off a move we didn't expect.

The atmosphere built up, everyone cheering for him. I cheered for him too. After all, everyone was so hyped for the performance and that's when U started wondering if I could do something to become as extraordinary as him too.

Present day

"Crystal," the judge said, and I was led into my judging centre.

-

"I've known your dance since 2023," the judge told me. "You are a radiant dancer, but you couldn't engage the audience. You looked down, dancing in your own world. I want to see if this is a habit you've broken."

I nodded and pulled out my chair. Preparing the file, I lay on the floor and waited for the judge to play the music file for me. Once the music started, I was invincible. Even I couldn't think of my next move, I just continued dancing like my life depended on it. Yet, I made sure to look at the judge throughout and made sure I didn't put too much passion into my dance such that I looked more like a pick me than an auditionee. And with that thought, a close to 3 minute dance came to an end.

"There's more fine control now, but you need to work on technique. Maybe record your dance to pick out these blind spots now? But I can't say it's nothing, you practiced despite your busy schedule. I'll wait-list you, but that all depends on the other performers." I felt a smile creep up my face when those words were said. I could be a finalist for who knows?
