A new chapter was starting in our leadership story in school. The present day seniors were passing the flame to my cohort, and it was now time for my juniors and batchmates to rise up to the occasion. I'm no exception, being promoted to the head of publicity for Infocomm. That meant I was going to decorate my CCA's noticeboard. Yet, we were going to have a leadership investiture for the bigger roles, like class monitors and new student council members. Was I excited? Definitely, I had friends rising up for the occasion.

Every soon to be student leader was dismissed at 10 to change, and I saw all of my soon to be leaders off. I was given an early recess, and that was when I bumped into Annabeth.Annabeth was one of my few "other friends" back during my outcast days. One of the people that'd talk to me when my best friend couldn't come to school. She'd find time for me even despite her larger social circle at the time and we still talk. Just not a lot because our NDP days have ended.
A year later, she was joining the student council. It was a pretty big thing for her so I definitely congratulated her. She was going to walk down the red carpet, so why bother about not walking down it when my friends are?
Another friend I was able to congratulate was Melaine. She was one of my very first juniors, but I got to know her from another junior Leah. Leah was in the same CCA as me, but Melanie was part of her friend group. I used to hang out with them back when I had no one but my best friend. We only met during that break, but it was more fun than ever!

The ceremony soon came, and ceremonial music was blasted throughout the hall. Guests were being ushered in and once everyone settled down, the grand walk began. I was able to cheer for Lucas, a newly appointed monitor for his class 3 Faith. Darren too, a retiring student leader and my first senior friend. I cheered for Jordan, who was the new company leader for Boys' Brigade. But the biggest surprise to me? Annabeth. I didn't she was going to be just a part of the student council, but company leader for Girls' Brigade.Honestly, two new leadership roles?! I couldn't be happier for her. She worked so hard for this moment.
I continued to watch the ceremony attentively. One of the girls in my class was able to collect the certificates for the new performing arts leaders. Iris represented all the house captains in collecting the certificate of appointment. Fawn got her certificate as the new Head of Culture I groaned with my friends when Jordan didn't represent all the company leaders to collect the certificates. He was that popular we all wanted the best for him. And my CCA's president was representing all the clubs and societies' presidents? A day of happy coincidences.
Sadly, even the happiest of days have to end. The new student council president received the flame from the previous one, as they both led all the student leaders in the pledge. I said the pledge in my heart, finally understanding I didn't need to sit at the special seats to be a leader. Being infocomm's publicity manger, I was one already.

I congratulated Darren and Jordan for their retirement and appointment respectively. Walking back to class with a light heart, I came to realise my secondary school was finally getting better. Not in a "I'm a student leader now" or "I'm going to take in this competition" way. It's content with who I am. To realise being just a part of the CCA exco is better than being a constant subject rep with the only difference every year being the subject I'm in charge of.
