Chapter 3: Starstruck by a new face

When we are in Secondary 3, we take our own subjects. We choose from a list and based on how good (or sh!tty) our results were, we were allocated the subjects accordingly. For example, if your science is as sh!tty, you take combined science where you take chemistry and a second science (Physics or Biology) as one subject and must supplement it with Art or Design and Technology (DnT).

A Stream 1 student must take 7 subjects, the seventh being A(dditional) Math(ematics), Principles of Accounts (POA) or Literature in English (frequently referred to as "Pure Lit"). I take pure lit, meaning I take classes after the majority has finished their classes for the day and have a free period, where I get to do what I want. (The best class of Stream 1 have students having free periods if they just take two Pure Sciences aka two sciences as two subjects)

Do you really want to know what's so important about this information? Because during my free period, something magical happened between me and a guy from a different class.
The following week
Library
I was studying "Romeo and Juliet" at the library, sitting with my old classmates used to be my friends. Half my earphones hanging by the side, I was trying to find out what subjects they took. All of a sudden, my classmate screamed, "Crystal, Simon says he is your best friend!"

"Really?" I replied in skepticism. All I know about Simon is he's my childhood friend's best friend. Nothing special, if you had to ask me. Yet my classmate decided to be mischievous that day, insisting random people in the library were my friend. I knew something was off, so I decided to play CSI. I ran around the library, investigating Simon was acting like he was high, only to stay rooted near a random table.

A random bespectacled guy then started talking to me, like he knew the drama between me and my childhood friend. He knows how I pissed my childhood friend off, all because "he 'dumped' me." (PSA: method won't be revealed) He warned me not to get too close to him. All of a sudden, my childhood friend walked off, like he was going to call someone. I would've continued the "CSI work" had it not been my childhood friend calling someone and then walking off.

The voice...it was all too familiar.

February 2023
I was struggling with the NDP moves. Nothing seemed to work back then, not even practices that lasted 2-3 hours.

My saviour came at the right time, before NDP occupied all of my waking hours. It started with warm ups, I swear it was nothing serious. No one prepared for the plot twist where she just turned around and started telling me where I went wrong. She got pretty into this whole mentoring thing, mentoring me every way possible to the point my best friend knew about it because she decided to mentor me after school, before our CCAs.

It was only her that actually got me to NDP as a main dancer, meaning I was able to take part in all the shows. Basically she made me remember why I even started dance after my PTSD shut it out.

From the corner of my eye, I saw a bed frame

From the corner of my eye, I saw a bed frame. Hair let down and a non-school based shirt. That only meant one thing—she was sick or something.

My social butterfly nature made me do the obvious. I just sprung out of my seat, chasing my ex-childhood friend for the phone just for a simple hello. She'll say hi, right? Apparently, the mysterious boy didn't see that.

He stopped me in my tracks, where I joked how Simon's drunk state got to me, and he fully agreed

He stopped me in my tracks, where I joked how Simon's drunk state got to me, and he fully agreed. Guiding me with some deep breaths, he talked about my past and how that actually caused all my problems for the past two years called hardly anyone by my side other my best friend. I'm not going to going into detail here, because Wattpad is a place for me tell stories, not my personal problems. But what I can tell you is that I was left with a pretty big impression. That was the first time I had feelings of awe towards a guy, not in a lusty way. In a jaw-dropping way.

His name was Lucas.

When our free periods ended, he just happened to be walking to his class. I screamed his name and caught up with him, thanking him for everything before it was too late. He suddenly offered to exchange numbers of me.

It felt like waking up from a fever dream

It felt like waking up from a fever dream. Guys were literally my worst foes. Very few guys treated me like a person and not an object, and the few guys that did treat with me with decency eventually got so sick of me they "dumped" me. It took a little convincing on his side for me to agree and we exchanged numbers.
A few hours later
I reached out to him, and surprisingly we ended up in the same house! Call that a blissful coincidence that meeting #1 was before our centennial house reveal. I then revealed my side of the story, and he understood it (once again, much to my surprise). We then put all of the ex-childhood friend drama aside, finally reaching out and learning more about the other party.

Maybe this is a fever dream after all. Just that I'm actually in that dream.
