"You want to be on League 2?" I nodded my head.

"Anyone else?" A few reluctant hands were raised, but I didn't think too much about it. All the boys that were closer to me were in league 1 and this was league 2. Eventually, the PE rep for my class was choosing people for the softball interclass games, and all were actually ok with the idea. I mean, teenagers can be cliquey and the world is a little hostile with true blue social butterflies.

The day of the sports day approached, the atmosphere bustling with activity. Selena, the captain for my team, passed me the piece of paper for second round of playoffs.

"So for the second round," she told me. "You start first. And you help fill in the names, ok?" I agreed and I got to work. Meanwhile, I was blessed with the opportunity to bond with some of my batch mates, who were surprised I had unfriended Ethan. Well, they probably haven't caught up with the drama, huh? And while socialising with them, I filled up the names, casually alternating between girls and boys.

"And round 2 is 3 Peace vs 3 Grace," the umpire declared. Blowing her whistle, I bat with a strong start and ran to the first spot, tapping the base to close it. The next batter bat and I decided to go all out running to the home base. Unfortunately, I was tagged out before I could reach home.

I wasn't sure what to feel when they declared I was out

I wasn't sure what to feel when they declared I was out. I had anticipated so much for this moment, hoping I would finally bring 1st place home. I thought I was doing well, but no. I had started on the wrong note and needed my friends to cover for me. It was a bittersweet feeling, because I had finally fulfilled my dream of being a real part of interclass.
Flashback
2 years prior
That was when my best friend and I were super clingy towards each other and we hated PE so much we would talk on court. We were even talking on court during the interclass, and that caused some serious backlash. And eventually our teammates decided not to let us, the two burdens, let the team lose and so they successfully bargained with the umpire to let us not play anymore.
Present day
But now, I chose to be a part of this wonderful event. The people actually wanted me on court not for aptitude, but for passion. I guess I wouldn't bargain.

Even without my help, I made it onto the finals! I was cheering me on, breath bated hoping to get the coveted first medal. And eventually, Selena told me at the end of the round, we won the entire level.

Getting the medal was a whole new talk altogether

Getting the medal was a whole new talk altogether. This was a medal I actually contributed to, even though my attempts were futile. It was also a reminder of how far I've come in my social journey. From being alone to being stuck with my best friend, then to having friends outside of my best friend and now having friends in both my form class and outside. Couldn't be happier.
