The Legend of Kajo

Chapter 12

    Kajo walked down to the kitchen, stretching his arms and yawning, feeling the satisfying crack of his joints as he arched his back. His father, Thorne, was already there, sipping a cup of coffee and reading a book, his eyes scanning the pages with a look of intense focus.

"Morning, son!" Thorne said, looking up and smiling, his eyes crinkling at the corners.

"Dad! You're back!!!"  He screamed as he rushed to him and gave him a hug.

"Yes I am." He replied smiling

"How was your night?" Thorne asked, his voice warm and interested.

"It was good, dad," Kajo replied, pouring himself a glass of juice from the pitcher on the table. "I'm feeling strong today." He took a sip of the juice, feeling the cool liquid slide down his throat.

"That's great to hear," Thorne said, closing his book and setting it aside.

"How is uncle Gorm?" He asks

"He's fine, he should be resting by now." Thorne replied.

"What was it like out there?" Kajo asks in curiosity but Thorne just changed the topic.

Thorne doesn't like Kajo talking about the outside world because he's a curious one and once you feed him with thoughts he will not go back on them so the only way to stop him is to clear his mind out of it, which is why he talks about something entirely different.

"So, tell me about your hunts these past two days. How did it go?" He leaned forward, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

Kajo launched into an enthusiastic account of the Rat King and the loots they had found after clearing the dungeon twice  now, Thorne listening intently, nodding his head and asking questions.

"Wow, that's impressive," Thorne said, when Kajo finished. "You're really close to leveling up, aren't you?"

"Actually, dad, I leveled up already," Kajo said, grinning, feeling a surge of pride. "I just need a bit more experience points and I'll be in level four in no time. A few more days at this rate and I'll be able to catch up with the four"

"Level four already! Wow! That's great, son." Thorne said, beaming with pride. "And by 'the four' do you mean your teammates?" He asked

Kajo nodded and he burst out laughing.

"Those kids are the same rank as you. But they were already at level 5 when i got them to be your teammates"

"Oh! I didn't know that. I've never asked them about it before also. And Saji and the others also leveled up during our hunt yesterday" he said grinning.

"I'm proud of you. You're becoming a skilled adventurer, just like me." He smiled, his eyes warm with approval.

Kajo blushed, feeling happy and proud of himself. He knew his father was a legendary hunter, and to be compared to him was an honor. "What's the plan for today, dad?" Kajo asked, finishing his juice.

"Well, I was thinking we could head out to the dungeons and do some more hunting," Thorne said, standing up. "Maybe we can find some more rare monsters and loot." He smiled, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

"That sounds like a great idea, dad," Kajo said, nodding enthusiastically.

Thorne smiled and stood up. "Alright, let's get moving then. We've got a big day ahead of us." And with that, Kajo and his father stood up and walked to the door.

Just as Thorne was about to leave with Kajo, a messenger arrived at the door. "My lord, you are summoned to the council chamber for an urgent meeting," he said, bowing his head.
