Luck would have it that the old gym was fully stocked with a lot of the things she needed. Abandoned clothes were abundant in the locker rooms. Someone even had the foresight to stash a first aid kit inside their duffle bag.
It was as if the gym shut down one day and no one ever returned to collect what had been left behind.
Amberly spent the next day scrouging around the building, taking stock of what she could use and what she would need to gather in case this impromptu trip lasted longer than a week. She hoped in that time her family would locate her.
She had seen Tony and Peter put together jigsaw puzzles within minutes on family game nights. What's a little reality warping in the grand scheme of things?
Amberly found that a few of the shower stalls in the locker rooms had running water. It was far from warm, but who was she to be picky.
After taking a shower Amberly sat in front of an empty pool wearing some sweatpants and a red hoodie that were the least smelly of what she had discovered. She chewed on an expired granola bar starving. Food was going to be a problem. From what she remembered humans could survive off of water for a few days, but she craved a real meal.
That seemed to be the last straw too because Amberly's eyes started to tear up. It was stupid she wasn't dead, and if she held out long enough, she'd be rescued. She had to believe that.
Her mom's voice echoed in her head saying I told you so.
She had told Amberly Tony was no good. He would only bring more trouble into their lives than he was worth, and boy was Tony worth a lot. If Amberly chose Tony over her mother, then she was dooming herself to a life of hardships that would never be worth it. This situation was exactly what her mom had meant.
Amberly wrinkled the wrapper of her snack in a fist. She couldn't think like that now.
Her next course of action was to take care of the injuries she had sustained. Her headache had cleared up mostly overnight. The only evidence she had sustained any blow to it was a growing bruise on the side of her face that looked a deep shade of purple. However, her whole arm and shoulder cried out in pain, so much so that taking off her watch was a task in itself.
She wondered if the device would be fixable. If she was Tony or Peter, even Harley, she might be able to determine such a thing with one look. Tony hadn't had much time to teach her about the mechanics behind his technology like he had with the boys.
It wasn't that Amberly didn't want to learn too. She liked fiddling with different things, but she didn't want to intrude on their time together. Pepper had taken her under her wing, letting Amberly shadow her in meetings. Amberly enjoyed those times, getting to ask Pepper all the questions about Stark Industries innerworkings that no one else could.
The watch dangled from her hand as she examined it. Gently she sat it on the floor next to her, a problem she would have to deal with later.
Opening up the first aid kit Amberly found something to wrap her hand with. She made a makeshift splint and pulled tight, so that she couldn't accidentally reinjure it. She'd watched Peter do something similar before when he didn't want to tell Tony what happened and risk getting lectured.
There was an emergency blanket inside too. It would be great to sleep with, Amberly only wished she would have found it sooner.
Amberly figured if she was going to explore her surroundings, it would be better to do so during the day. With no way to really tell time, getting started as soon as possible was in order.
She made sure to put all of the things she'd gathered into a black duffed and found a locker that's lock was broken to put it in.
Amberly pulled up the hood of her sweatshirt before she stepped outside. It was better to cover up the fact that she was a girl wandering alone with a bump on her head, than not and regret it later.
