Tim wasn't sure why he let Alfred and Dick guilt him into spending the night at manor. He had his own apartment now, and often stayed as far away from the manor as possible. After fully dropping out of high school and exercising all his rights as an emancipated 17-year-old, Tim had slipped back into his role as CEO of Wayne Enterprises. He didn't need his older brother coddling him.
Ever since Amber had left their family though Dick had been more overprotective, if that was possible. God forbid Tim get so much as a scratch, they would act like he was dying with his missing spleen and all.
It was awful. They needed someone to focus their attention on instead of him. Despite what everyone thought, he was doing fine. Tim was used to being left behind. His parents were practically never around and when Bruce got lost in the Timestream, Dick had been too busy with Damian to pay attention to him.
Maybe if Jason were around, they could focus some of that energy on him. Instead, after Amber had left Jason internalized everything as usual and refused to speak to anyone.
If anyone bothered to ask Tim, what scared him the most was how Bruce was behaving. When Jason died, Tim had to drag Bruce out of his room to get him to do anything. This time when losing a kid, Bruce was pretending like nothing happened. His denial was so deep, Tim had wondered if Bruce somehow blocked out any memories of the girl.
He had to remember her though, for Tim had found out that the man had commissioned the gym Amber had been living in to be turned into a non-profit dedicated to helping children in need.
It was safe to say their family was in shambles, with the only sense of normalcy being Damian's disdain for Tim after discovering how he'd helped Amber escape.
At first Alfred handled things with the school, saying that Amber was on some kind of trip with her extended family, and as the school year was coming to a close Tim suspected they would say she wasn't returning the next fall.
Raven was still having trouble figuring out how Trigon was able to send out that amulet to any dimension. The search had banned the Titans together again though, and they were working tirelessly together to solve the puzzle between Trigon and Luthor for weeks.
Between his new position with WE, working with the Titans, and keeping up with the Bats who were hell bent of finding Scarecrow and putting him away for good, Tim's sleep schedule was fucked.
He got up from his bed throwing the covers back. A pair of slippers that he normally wore to fend off the chill of the manor's cold floors were abandoned by his nightstand. They made too much noise, and Tim didn't want anyone to hear him.
He slipped out his door and walked the hall down to Dick's room. It was a routine he'd developed, walking around to check on all his siblings while they slept. Seeing that they were okay made him feel better after losing another one.
Tim peaked in Dick's room seeing him tucked in with Damian at his side. Tim couldn't be sure who had been the instigator of it, but he wasn't surprised. He passed Duke's room and checked on him before making one last stop outside of Bruce's room.
Bruce was a light sleeper and would sometimes notice if Tim opened his door. If he was careful, Tim might be able to just look in and leave without bothering him. Before he could open the door Tim heard a knock.
It was 5 am. Tim couldn't really think of anyone who would show up at the manor at such an odd hour and actually try to make themsevels known.
He changed paths and stumbled down the stairs, realizing as he got closer to the front door that Alfred was also awake and still dressed. The butler probably hadn't gone to bed yet after helping them clean up after patrol. Tim watched as Alfred opened the door and was talking with someone.
Tim couldn't make out who it was behind Alfred at first but could hear the man speaking. "My dear child, this door will always be open to you," he heard Alfred say. It was something similar to what he once heard him tell Jason when he was rummaging through the kitchen during the holidays.
Alfred stepped to the side, inviting whoever it was inside.
Tim didn't know whether to run forward or find a better hiding spot as he saw Amber walked through the door dressed in her Spider-Woman costume. She smiled looking up at the chandelier Dick had once broken, and it was all Tim needed to believe there might be some hope for their family yet.
Well, that's a wrap! Thank you for reading and joining me on this adventure. This was the longest piece of work I have ever written and the first story I've ever published and completed on Wattpad. I really can't express how much it means to me to be able to share it with everyone.
Things with Tim and Amber have always been rocky, and I'm glad that her returning has brought some hope back into Tim's life. He, as much as any of them, has been through the wringer. Seeing the effects that her arrival and departure from their family created too, was really important to me as I think it echoed how they all felt after Jason's death. While Amber may not have died, I know it still felt just as permeant to them, and I'm glad to leave the door open to a happy ending for them all.
I wish you all the best! -InspirKEN
