Hi, I hope you enjoy this update! TW warning there're some heavy emotions with Amber returning back home. I think Harley was spot on when he said it was only a matter of time before Tony and Amber butted heads, as they're so similar to each other. It's been cool exploring the different parent/child dynamics amongst the different characters in this story and I think that after spending some time with the Wayne's Amber has been able to compare those experiences too.
I can't wait to hear your thoughts :)
Amber couldn't bear the look on their faces as the portal had closed. Her betrayal was something she'd never be able to erase from her memories, but it had to be done.
She clung tightly to Harley's limp body, preparing for whatever would face her.
There was a possibility that her powers would be gone when she reappeared in her home reality. Last time they'd changed universes, it had hurt, and her spider powers were one of the main reasons she'd gotten off as good as she had. This time the landing might hurt.
She had only blinked, before finding herself falling from the sky into the middle of New York. Amber pressed her web shooters, which were luckily still intact, and shot a to curb their decent.
"Okay so far so good," Amber told herself, managing to land them in secluded alleyway.
She sat Harley up against a wall and fought the urge to rip off her mask. Amber wanted to breathe in the air and savor every second of being back home.
First thing was first though, she needed to find out if she still had spider powers. She uncurled her fist, wincing as pain flowed through her hand. Punching Superman had come at a cost. Slowly she touched the brick wall above Harley's head, confirming that her sticky powers.
There was a part of her that would admit to being slightly relieved. Yet, she only needed the powers a little longer. Once Harley was safely in the arms of qualified medical professionals, she'd ask Tony for help in returning her to normal. That was what was best for everyone.
The second item on her list was getting Harley to the Avenger's Tower. She scooped him up once again and set off. Something flew by in the sky that Amber wouldn't have noticed if she wasn't trying to be so careful. She trailed the moving object with her eyes, watching as it seemed to approach her.
Swinging upwards and landing on a rooftop, Amber could still feel the little adrenaline that was left pumping through her veins. Whatever was coming for her now, Amber was ready to muster up her strength and continue fighting.
Her spider senses were on edge and head was fuzzy, filled with voices screaming at her to watch out.
It was probably why she didn't immediately register who was speaking to her. "Who are you?" the threat questioned.
All she saw at first was red. The glow from the portal was burned into her vision, and Amber couldn't make out the outline of the thing standing in front of her.
She readjusted Harley, in the process revealing a glimpse of his face to the onlooker.
"Harley," the machine whispered, knocking Amber back into reality.
The Ironman suit had changed. New upgrades had been added in the months she was gone. The chest plate and shoulders had been slimmed down and spots where gold lining had been was now replaced with red coloring.
"I'll ask once more before we have a problem. Who are you, and where did you find him?" the suit questioned.
Amber opened then closed her mouth, finding no words. Out of the corner of her eye she saw movement and not a second later Spider-Man was landing on the rooftop too.
