Nothing mattered anymore. Amber didn't care if they all knew she was Spider-Woman. The one person she had been trying to protect had been hurt because of her. It was all her fault.
What was the point of even getting home anymore? She could never face Tony knowing she'd been unable to save Harley.
Nightwing attempted to approach her again. "Amber we've got to get him out of here. Jason can take him to the hospital as Red Hood and we can meet there in our civilian identities."
"I can't leave him," she said holding Harley closer. He was all she had left. Without him she was absolutely alone in this world.
His head lulled to the side in her lap. He had stopped seizing minutes ago but remained unconscious. She could hear his heart beating faintly, and Amber was clinging on to that beat like her own life depended on it.
Dick reached out to try and take Harley from her, and she shouted. "Don't touch him."
"I just want to help. I won't hurt him," he said not backing away.
She'd let this happen, selfishly leaving behind Scarecrow when she had the opportunity to stop him so that she could have her medicine.
"He'll be alright."
"You can't know that," Amber practically snarled. She didn't want to imagine a world without Harley in it.
Red Hood was uncharacteristically quiet from where he observed them. His hands were crossed behind his helmet as he stood frozen.
"Batman and Red Robin are on route to your location," Amber heard Oracle say to Nightwing. Amber had turned off her own comm not wanting to hear anyone else try to convince her to abandon Harley.
Nightwing responded to Barbara asking for them to turn around. "It's alright O. We've got it from here. Can you have them redirected to the hospital. Gordon's kid was injured by Scarecrow."
"Harley was there? Is he okay?"
"He's going to be," Dick promised, for Amber or Barbara she wasn't sure. He turned off his comm before speaking again. "Let's get him up."
Dick beckoned Jason over, who picked Harley up bridal style. Amber had yet to release Harley's hand even as Jason secured the teen.
"I don't know if I should be the one to," Jason said. His hesitance was clear even through the voice modulator in his helmet.
"Jason, there isn't time to waste, just go," Dick urged. What Dick must have imagined to be a comforting gesture, only enraged Amber. He rested a hand on her shoulder, as if to hold her back from fighting off their efforts as Red Hood ran off with Harley.
She couldn't think clearly, scared for the horrors that Harley was experiencing being dosed with that much fear toxin, and in a swift motion she shrugged him off.
"Why don't we go back home and change?" he suggested pretending not to be hurt by her rejection.
Amber wasn't listening, instead her thoughts spiraled thinking of all Harley had sacrificed for her. Why would he let Scarecrow inject him with Fear Toxin instead of her? Spider-Woman was supposed to take the brunt of anything that was tossed at them. It should have been her not him, never him.
She picked up her mask and the rebreather that was supposed to protect Harley from the ground. "I think this belongs to The Commissioner," she said tossing the rebreather to Nightwing. He flinched like she'd just tossed him a grenade.
"Amber, did you hear me?"
She shook her head, refusing to go back to the manor. There was still enough stickiness in the mask to slap it back on her face.
