"My name is Amberly Stark, and I'm not from your universe. My father Tony Stark is a tech genius billionaire who's also one of my world's most famous superheroes, Ironman. During a press conference a supervillain attacked. They had an amulet that transported Harley and I into this alternate reality.
"Somehow when I got sent here, I developed powers identical to that of Tony's adopted kid Peter. Once Harley and I were reunited he helped me figure out how to use my new spider powers. Since then, I've been Gotham's one and only Spider-Woman. You know the rest."
Listening to Amber speak, Dick knew they had failed her. Maybe if they had presented a united front instead of letting old resentments keep them at each other's throats she would have told them everything from the beginning.
"And that's your what, doppelganger? Tim asked, unable to look away from the picture of Amber on the Batcomputer's screen. "Marie, that's what you called yourself at the tower."
Amber made a curt nod. "My middle name," she clarified. "Harley accidentally came across her before everything."
Tim gaped. "The new facial recognition program didn't pick this up. Babs even double checked it after me." He rolled his chair in front of the keyboard and began pulling different tabs up.
"She works for Luthor," Bruce said hovering over Tim's shoulder.
"Damn it," Tim bit out pushing the keyboard back with such force Dick wondered if they'd have to replace it again. He pointed towards something on the screen, but Dick had no clue what they were looking at. "Luthor managed to conceal himself and all Lexcorp employees from our biometric scans. There's got to be a way to override this. It could have been detrimental in our cases."
"It was detrimental," Dick thought. So many little things had lined up perfectly to go wrong.
"So, Harley's like. . ." Jason words fizzled out, but Dick could see the wheels turning in his head as he tried to comprehend what Amber said.
"My brother more or less. Tony crash landed near his house in his Ironman suit years ago and Harley helped him out when he was in a tight spot. They kept in contact, and Tony picks him up to hang out with our family on summers and school breaks." Amber shivered before saying, "to think you guys ever assumed we were dating." Her tongue stuck out like she thought it was gross.
"What about the story of you getting bit by a radioactive spider?" Bruce asked.
"That's how Peter got his powers. It's such a crazy story I knew it'd be believable."
Dick would think it was all a prank if there wasn't photo evidence of Amber's doppelganger. In a weird way though, her being from another universe explained a lot. There had been no trace of her when Tim and Barbara went searching. Accusations of her being a meta were met with confusion and dismissal from the start. Most of all she didn't know who Nightwing and Red Hood were during their first encounter.
"This is going to take hours to fix," Tim mumbled still fiddling with the facial recognition program. Despite clearly being sleep deprived, Dick wondered if Tim was throwing himself into a project to distract from the bombs being dropped every few seconds.
Amber scratched at her wrist nervously, a habit Dick had seen her do before. Now he knew she was messing with her web shooters, something he hadn't realized she'd been wearing 24/7. "I understand if you're mad at me. I'm sorry for not telling you all sooner."
"Why now?" Dick asked wondering what had changed her mind.
"I couldn't stand seeing you all at odds with each other. If you need someone to be mad at, please be mad at me."
