~third pov~Zane paced nervously in the waiting room, his gaze constantly flickering towards the clock on the wall. Y/N had promised to meet him soon after wrapping up his meetings with the patients, but an hour had already passed, and there was still no sign of him.
A sense of unease settled in Zane's stomach, his brow furrowing as he tried to shake off the growing feeling of dread. Y/N had always been punctual, his word as good as gold. The thought of him intentionally leaving without a word was unthinkable.
As the minutes ticked by, Zane's concern deepened. Y/N had also mentioned that he needed to pick up Skylor from school, a task that he took very seriously. There was no way that he would intentionally be late, not when it came to Skylor's safety and well-being. He loved her.
Zane's mind raced, his thoughts drifting to the various patients he had been treating. Could they have harmed him? Zane's eyes narrowed as he tried to recall the last patient Y/N had been treating, it should've been Morro who he treated last today, did Morro harm him?
Zane's worry for Y/N began to simmer like lava, threatening to boil over at any moment. His gaze, ever vigilant, spotted Wu in the distance, the old man engrossed in a conversation on the phone.
His eyes narrowed, and without making a sound, Zane slid back into his chair. He leaned in, straining to hear Wu's words, hoping for any clue that might reveal Y/N's whereabouts. Playing it off as if he was just sitting in the waiting area.
"What?" Wu whispered urgently, his voice barely audible. He paused, his body frozen for a moment before resuming his pacing, stopping just a few feet from Zane's sitting position.
"I told him I'd let him free and he could have his boy candy if he took him far, far away from here," Wu muttered, his tone laced with frustration. "What do you mean he's planning on conquering Ninjago? That fucking asshole never keeps his end of the bargain."
Wu sighed heavily, his face etched with frustration as he rubbed his temples. "I guess that's what happens when you free an evil lord," he muttered, his voice heavy with regret. "I should've known better. I was just so desperate to get that boy out of here before he ruined my plans of containing the Ninja to use as my own secret weapons, that I didn't think this through. Keep the police on standby until i arrive."
Zane's heart sank, the realization that Wu had been manipulating them all along crashing down upon him like a tidal wave. The implications of Wu's words were staggering, his mind racing as he tried to process the truth.
Was he talking about Y/N and Lord Garmadon? Had Wu never intended to let them go, using them as pawns in his grand scheme for power? Zane bit his lip, fear coursing through him as he stared down at the ground.
Wu's eyes widened as they locked onto Zane's sitting form, the old man's expression a mix of worry and shock. Slowly, he turned over to face Zane, his voice laced with apprehension. "How long were you there for? How much of my conversation did you hear?"
Zane's exterior remained composed, but his internal gears were whirring with fear and determination. He played dumb, buying time as he weighed his options. "Nothing, I'm just waiting for Y/N, why?"
Wu scoffed, his gaze shifting away as he attempted to brush off the encounter. "Forget it. You're in charge, I have to handle something." With that, he turned on his heel and strode away, leaving Zane to contemplate the full extent of Wu's treachery.
