I am both really excited and really nervous about this chapter. I also feel slightly bad at how I ended it...
The next few chapters are going to be in between El Reno and the airport scene in the movie, so bear with me as I play with a few ideas.
I own Anna and that's about it, all errors are mine as well.
The tornado warning sirens were already echoing through the small town as we arrived, and the wind was already wiping around taking anything it could. Our group broke off, as Boone, Lily and Ben went right to the park and Dexter, Dani, Kate, Tyler and I went downtown. Tyler pulled up along the side of the road and I quickly got out of the truck, and ran around to the front of the truck, and Tyler came to stand beside me looking at the storm as it came towards the town. The wind was already strong pulling my hair across my face.
There was the scraping of metal over the roaring of the wind that made me turn as a canopy tent blew towards us. Tyler turned around just seconds later, and we both ducked as it flew over our head, his hands on my arm helping me up. Standing we watched the canopy fly out into the fields, and I turned back to look at the market behind us.
"I'm going to go help Dexter!" Kate called from beside the truck before turning to run towards one of the shelters as people ran around us. Looking at Tyler, I grabbed his arm and pulled him with me as we ran to Main Street, where it looked like there had been a farmers' market.
The fear I had was still there, but seeing everyone else panicking brought me back to a level head. Pulling away from Tyler I immediately ran to several people picking themselves from the ground. Helping them up I pointed out Dexter and Kate and instructed them to run and get inside.
"Tyler, Anna!" Dexter yelled and I turned to see him helping Dani get a man up "Shelters are all full, we gotta get everyone to the movie theater." Nodding I started running down the street. Several vendors were trying to hold down their canopies, but the winds had become so strong, saving them at this point was useless. At this point I had told several people to let them go and get inside, and some tried to tell me they were good, but the incoming tornado and strong winds quickly said otherwise. Running with some of the people I motioned them towards Lily and Dexter as they ushered people into the theater.
As I looked out at the wrecked farmers market, I was able to make out Tyler a few meters away just as the cable car, that typically ran the length of the streets, as a way to get from point A to point B, was off its cable. The wind had it barreling down the street, pulling debris in front of it and I watched helplessly as Tyler turned around to late and then he was gone, under the debris, but I could hear the pain yell he let out.
I didn't hesitate, I didn't wait for anyone else, my feet were moving towards him. He was underneath several layers of debris. The debris was pinning his leg, and the debris was held down by the cable car that had flipped on its side. He was groaning as he attempted to lift the wooden beams that had him pinned and I ran to his side trying to lift them with him. My heart was hammering as nothing budged and he was still stuck, with every passing second the wind got stronger, and fear started to grip my consciousness.
As a vehicle crashed around me, I flinched and looked over my shoulder. I watched as a crane flew through the air before it knocked into one of the legs of the water tower above us, weakening it. Through the roaring wind I could hear the structure creak under the heavy pressure above us. Swallowing the lump in my throat I turned back to the debris pinning Tyler down.
One of the beams holding the water tower up fell beside us and Tyler looked at it and then back at me. I could see it in his eyes, he was worried, he was scared and as he opened his mouth to speak, I just shook my head going back to the boards and tried to lift them up.
