Chapter 25: Tough Love

At Wesley's apartment

Wesley was getting ready for work when Lucy walked into the kitchen.

"So, how does it feel to be coming back to work after the world thinks you're dead?" she asked, a playful glint in her eye.

Wesley shrugged, a half-smile on his face. "It's... a bit scary. But the upside is that people won't recognize me as Wesley Wick—now it's Michael Knight."

Lucy laughed softly. "I never thought I'd be dating a Michael Knight, but I'm glad it's you."

Wesley grinned and pulled her into a kiss. She wrapped her arms around his waist, savoring the moment.

A knock on the door interrupted them. They broke their embrace and went to answer it.

Melissa stood on the doorstep, a smile on her face. "Hey, I'm here for my shift as the babysitter."

Wesley greeted her with a chuckle. "Hey."

Melissa extended her hand with a mock-serious tone. "Nice to meet you, Mr. Knight."

Lucy burst into laughter. "Please, stop. I'm laughing too much!"

Melissa winked. "Just trying to get into character. It's nice to see you both."

Wesley and Lucy exchanged smiles, feeling a sense of normalcy as they prepared for the day ahead.

Wesley said, "We'll see you later, Melissa. Make sure the twins are well taken care of."

Melissa grinned. "No worries. Nora and Mason Knight are in good hands."

Lucy raised an eyebrow. "I can't believe you changed the twins' last names too."

Wesley shrugged. "It wasn't my call. Knight Industries decided on that."

Lucy shook her head with a chuckle. "Alright, let's get going. We've got work to do."

Wesley waved. "Bye, Melissa."

Lucy and Wesley headed out and got into KITT.

KITT's voice greeted them. "Good morning, Michael."

Wesley smirked. "Looks like you're sticking with that name now, huh?"

KITT responded, "Yes, it's part of the new identity."

Lucy asked, "What did Brian and your mom think?"

Wesley's expression softened. "They were shocked and scared, thinking I was gone for good. But I went to see them and let them know I'm okay."

Lucy nodded. "Let's hit the road."

Wesley agreed, "Yeah."

As KITT's engine roared, the car announced, "Occupant restraint system active."

Wesley guided KITT smoothly out of the driveway and onto the road, heading toward the station for another day of work.

At the station

Wesley and Lucy walked into the briefing room alongside John and Jackson.

John remarked, "Henry's engaged."

Jackson added, "Yeah, and he just turned 20."

John replied, "I know. It seems too young."

Jackson countered, "Didn't you get married around that age?"

John said, "That's beside the point."

Lucy chimed in, "I just talked to my dad. Apparently, my mom showed up at my apartment because he brought home a bagel for himself and forgot to get one for her."
