Alyssa Mitchell
📍Lake Tahoe Airport
The flight wasn't long at all, but with the tension between jax and cameron made it feel longer than it should've been.
cameron just attacked jax for no reason, saying he disrespected jas. things were too heated so jasmine and i didn't even have time to talk because we were busy calming down the boys.
"jaxon, are you okay my love?" i question him. the last thing i want is him to be upset on our vacation.
he nods his head remaining silent, and now i feel like im getting the silent treatment. i look away to the baggage carousel watching the pieces of luggage spin around waiting for their owners to claim them. after a few moments our bags spin around and jaxon goes to grab them.
even when upset, he still doesn't let me touch a thing. i love his masculinity. the vibes he gives just makes you want to be your cute little feminine self.
"okay, how about you guys take separate cars? we'll meet at the lake house for dinner. nobody better be late." mom says to all of us. the five of us nod, the silence feels so awkward to me.
"oh, and the rentals are ready for pick up. be safe." dad gives me a stern look. i watch my parents lead my brothers away to their black truck. the truck we all were supposed to ride in, but i guess they sensed how thick the tension was still.
once we get to our rentals, jaxon puts our things in the trunk. Dad managed to get us a tesla rental, while jasmine and cameron have a red chevy.
kb throws himself on the backseat letting out the loudest yawn, "the flight wasn't even that long bro."
"yeah but jet lag still exists." kb speaks matter of factly.
"when you've flown across different time zones genius." i laugh at him.
kb scoffs letting out another yawn. jaxon rests his hand on my thigh looking over to me with low eyes. he's so handsome.
"in n out mama?"
i smile widely nodding my head, i'll never turn down in n out.
jaxon smiles softly pulling out of the parking lot. oh how i've missed california. it's so beautiful and i love all the palm trees. perhaps i'll find a college out here. jaxon plays music from his phone, the current song playing...
vibin to the music
this is how we do it
all night
breezin down the freeway
just me and my babyyy in our ride
just me and my boss
no worries at all
listening to the ashton martin music
i hum along to the song, i grew up to this song. rick ross is not tolerable though. i can't stand him. he's just fat and rich. that's all he got going for him. but this song is a classic.
after i post a photo of our food to my story i sit my phone down and i pray over our meal.
I opened my eyes after the quiet "amen," catching the small smile on Jaxon's face. It wasn't his usual smirk—the one that made me roll my eyes when he was teasing me—it was softer, worn down, but... grateful. KB was already halfway through his burger, mumbling a "thanks, Lyss" between bites. I tried to match their ease, but the knot in my chest didn't budge. It sat there, heavy and stubborn.
I chewed slowly, barely tasting my food. My mind kept circling back to the airport, to Jasmine's wide-eyed I don't know what I did expression. I'd seen that act before—how she could pull sympathy without raising her voice or even saying much at all. I wanted to believe it wasn't intentional, but after all these years, I knew better. This wasn't just about Jaxon or Cameron. This was about loyalty... about who was standing on whose side.
