THE NEXT DAY(Chloe's pov)
———————————————————————————
The next morning, I awoke well before my alarm—about three hours too early. For some reason, we were on the floor. I glanced at Red, who was resting her head on me. A small smile crept across my face as I carefully got up. I lifted her gently and carried us both to my bed. She nestled right against me, prompting another smile as I kissed her forehead."What time is it?" Red mumbled sleepily.
"It's three," I replied.
"Why are you up?" she whined, her voice drowsy.
"I'm sorry, love. We somehow fell asleep on the floor," I explained. She pulled the blanket over her head, seeking warmth.
"I'm really sorry, love. Just go back to sleep," I said softly. She cuddled closer to me, and I wrapped my arms around her. Soon, we both drifted back into a peaceful slumber.
RED'S POV
———————————————————————————
When I woke up, it was to the sound of Chloe's alarm blaring. I was still groggy from being awake briefly at three in the morning. I turned off the alarm and glanced over at Chloe, who had pulled the covers over her head."I don't want to," she whimpered.
"What princess?" I asked as I propped myself up.
"I don't want to get up. I don't want to go," she replied, sounding distressed. This puzzled me because she usually loved school.
"Baby, why not? You adore school," I said gently.
"I don't want to see him," she admitted. My heart softened, and I pulled the covers back down.
"Sweetheart, he's not in any of our classes anymore. I promise you won't see him," I assured her.
"But what if we run into him in the halls or at lunch?" she worried.
"I'm not going to let him bother you or speak to you. Do you think I'd ever allow anyone to hurt you like that again?" I asked, looking her in the eyes. She shook her head and wrapped her arms around me, and I returned the hug.
"I love you," Chloe said softly, and I smiled.
"I love you even more, Chlo," I replied. When I pulled back, her smile made mine grow wider.
"Now let's get ready," I said. She giggled a little and climbed out of bed. I headed to the bathroom first and changed into cargo pants and a crop top. When I emerged, I saw Chloe in leggings and one of my shirts.
"I love that shirt! Where did you get it?" I inquired, and Chloe rolled her eyes, laughing.
"I don't know, but I really like it. It smells like someone I love," she said, wrapping her arms around my neck. I responded by placing my arms around her waist, gazing into her eyes.
"What's on your mind?" I asked.
"Oh, wouldn't you like to know?" she teased, giggling.
"Oh, so that's what you're thinking. Such a little freak," I smirked, and she chuckled.
"Oh, and you're not?" she shot back.
"I know I am, and I'm proud of it," I assured her. Chloe rolled her eyes playfully, and I leaned in to kiss her. She kissed me back before heading into the bathroom. I sat on the toilet, chatting with her as she got ready. Suddenly, we heard the front door creak open, and we both glanced out.
