Crush

I stood before you everyday,
Watching your smile, hearing your laugh,
And you joked around like it was nothing.

Did you not notice how my eyes sparkled near you?
Did you not notice that you were the only one I teased?
Maybe I failed to notice then, too,
That I was also the only one you teased so much.

You always found a way to draw me in,
Any conversation, any day.
You acted like it was normal,
Like I was meant to be in your retorts.

Was that your love language?
Teasing jabs for no reason at all?
Guess it is mine too-- realized only after I fell for you.
But you did annoy me, you know?

Now I'm far away from you,
Wondering maybe, just maybe,
You felt the same way I did
Whenever I laughed at you.

When I think of you now,
I see glimpses of the care you showed me,
Not obvious, but now, I know it was there.

If I could go back in time,
I wouldn't change anything between us.
I may not have had you as mine,
But I'm sure I have you as a friend.

So, so long, my friend, hope to see you soon,
May not be as my crush, but at least,
As the friend I once crushed on.
