Chapter 24: The One That Called Me Princess
NevaehFive Days Before the Show
I've been practicing for a couple of hours with Max. While walking into Damon's car, I noticed a pair of familiar cold green eyes. But when I looked again, he was gone. I could have been making it up. Damon and I were going on a car date at the drive in movie theater. I had been on edge ever since we've been back from our ski trip.
I had received a weird message. I could still remember the exact words that set a coldness down my spine. I tried to keep it out of my mind but it was difficult. I was beginning to think Damon was catching on that something was bothering me because something was bothering me. He would check in more with what was on my mind and I could always make it seem like it was nothing. Oh, how I wished it was nothing.
Being at the drive-in movie theater made it easier to not talk as much. But not as easy as being in a regular movie theater. The movie was a romcom, so it was easy for us to sneak moments of conversations or commentary.
The only other person I really watched rom coms with was Natalie. I loved to watch them whereas she loved to hate watching them. It was confusing for me to understand, considering she was an actress and had done a couple of rom-coms, but I never pressed Natalie about it too much.
"So what do you like about rom coms?" Damon asked.
"Because they make me laugh and I always know there is going to be a happy ending. Regular romance can have too much pain or the ending can be sad...like Titanic or a Walk to Remember. I don't want to be sad. There is already too much sadness in this world."
"That is fair. I never thought about it that much. I figured a romance was still a romance at the end of the day," he commented.
"A romance is never just a romance, firstly. Secondly, you talk a lot while watching a movie."
"So do you. Remember Godzilla?"
"What do you expect me to do? That movie was so boring. Like a giant gorilla?"
"That's King Kong."
"Either way. Bor-ing. They are both boring, so I talk so I don't fall asleep. You talk just to talk."
His laughter floated up from his throat. "I'm guessing you don't like it when I talk while watching movies."
"I am telling you I don't like it when you talk during my movies."
The minimal distance between began to fade as he body approached closer to me. "There are other things we can do other than talk." His fingers gently brushed my jaw and I could feel my heat flow through my body. Then planted a kiss at the same spot. "Or we can talk about more important things," he added, as he placed the distance back. I tried to hide how a move like made my body hot, but I was guessing I wasn't doing much of a good job considering how Damon seemed to enjoy me struggling to keep my composure.
'Like what?"
'Like more about your trips abroad?" his smoothing voice probed further.
"You mean my trip abroad? Singular. I told you I only went to Italy for a month. I went to Rome, saw the Vatican, saw the colosseum, you know a lot of tourist places."
