You've got a friend in me

When the road looks rough ahead

And you're miles and miles

From your nice warm bed

❤︎ Ethan comes home after going out and buying lunch only to open the door and be met with a whiteboard blocking the hallway.

Okay, that's weird.

He steps into the apartment, softly shutting the door behind him, takes off his shoes and slips his feet into the purple slippers Helena had gotten for him and notes that Nico's black ones weren't in their usual spot, which could only mean that he was home.

He manoeuvres around the whiteboard only to step into a pile of paper.

"Ethan!" Helena screeches. "Be careful!"

"Sorry," Ethan grumbles as he lifts his foot. "Maybe if you didn't put a stack of papers in the entry hallway right in front of a giant whiteboard that doesn't belong there."

Helena glares at him. "I thought I told you to be aware of your surroundings?"

"Yeah, outside. Around monsters," Ethan rolls his eyes. "Not in my own home."

"Sounds like excuses to me," Nico said as he entered the room holding a stack of folders. "As that one-eyed guy from Harry Possum said, remain vigilant."

"It's Harry Potter," Ethan corrected. "and it's constant vigilance."

"Close enough," Nico shrugged.

"It really wasn't."

"Whatever."

The two glare at each other and a staring contest ensues.

"Ha! You blinked."

"That's not fair! I only have one eye."

"Maybe you're just a loser."

"Maybe you're just a bitch."

"Maybe you're just stupid."

"Maybe -"

Helena stands up quickly and gasps, interrupting the two boys' bickering session.

"The pelvic inlet on this skeleton is oval in shape, indicating that it's female," she said, grabbing a file from the mess of papers around her. "She has circular eye sockets with squared margins and a narrow and high nasal aperture further indicates that she's of European descent. Time of death unknown. Seriously, these people are terrible; they are giving me nothing to work with!"

Nico and Ethan watch as she grabs a photo out of the file and puts it on the board.

"What is she doing?" Ethan asks Nico.

"Helping," Nico sighs. "She found out I was looking for my mum."

Ethan hums. "How long has she been like this?"

"All day. She made some calls and when I came by for lunch, she was like this. Made me tell her everything I remembered, which is practically nothing."

"The hotel messed up your memory, right?"
