( Billie Eilish - What was i made for)
Elisse spent every possible moment in the library. She leafed through book after book but found nothing useful. She didn't give up. At night, she would sneak into the forbidden part of the library and look through every book that might contain a mention of the abrogation of the inviolable oath.
As Elisse continued her search into the early hours of the night, she began to tire, her eyelids starting to feel heavy. The weight of her quest and its importance had taken a toll on her mind and body.
But still, she was determined to find a solution. She took deep breaths, trying to ignore the weariness settling in, and continued searching through the books.
"Come on," she whispered to herself. "There must be something... anything... "
After another useless book, she gave up and went to bed at least for a while. After a short sleep
she came to breakfast with a lazy step and sat down at the table.
"good morning" greeted the Sallow twins tiredly and gave Ominis a kiss on the cheek."Ominis, you should let Elisse breathe a little" Sebastian scoffed.
Elisse shot Sebastian a murderous look and began to scoop food onto her plate.
Ominis, sensing her exhaustion, turned towards her with a disapproving glare, his words laden with concern. "Have you been staying up all night again?"
Elisse ate her breakfast furiously, ignoring Ominis' question.
"There's nothing in that bloody library! Nothing useful!" she dropped her fork on the plate.Ominis placed a hand gently on her arm, trying to calm her. "Elisse, you need to get some rest. You can't keep pushing yourself like this."
However, Sebastian and Anne joined the conversation, both concerned. Anne spoke up, "No luck in the library?" While Sebastian added, "You look like you haven't slept in days."
Elisse shook her head in response. She was so tired and angry at her failure that she didn't even feel like talking.
There had to be something. She remembered her mentor in France who taught her how to master ancient magic. She remembered how she had mentioned to her during the lesson that with her gift she would be able to remove the curse from the body. Maybe the damn dark mark can be removed too. The only problem was that it was just before graduation and she couldn't leave Hogwarts now.
Sebastian and Anne exchanged glances, their concern for Elisse growing as they observed her exhaustion and frustration. Ominis, however, was the first to speak, his voice firm yet gentle.
"We can't go on like this, Elisse." He said, his hand still holding onto her arm. "Please, don't sacrifice your health to find some remedy."
Elisse sighed but knew they were right.
"Okay, I promise I'll go to bed early tonight and rest." Elisse said.
Sebastian and Anne nodded, seemingly satisfied with her promise. Ominis squeezed her arm gently before letting go."Good." he said softly. "Please take care of yourself."
The rest of breakfast passed in relative silence, the atmosphere between them subdued yet filled with concern for Elisse's well-being.
Elisse headed to her theory of magic class and sat down at a desk. She was listening to Professor Fig's lecture and her eyes were closing from fatigue. She was almost dozing when the professor's words took over her: "My wife Miriam believed that the one who has the gift of wielding ancient magic can do a lot of good in the world."
Elisse was already completely focused and listened carefully to Mr. Fig until the end of the lesson.
Elisse waited until the classroom had mostly cleared out before approaching Professor Fig. She took a deep breath, steeling herself as she approached him.
"Professor," she said, her voice still somewhat strained from fatigue. "Can I speak with you for a moment, please?"
"Aaah Elisse. Of course. What's the matter?"
Elisse was a little reluctant but finally dared to ask, "Your wife, Miriam... , I'm sorry I don't know how to ask".
Elisse took a breath and started again:
"I need to find out if it is possible to remove...the dark mark and the unbreakable vow."Professor Fig's expression softened with sympathy as he listened to Elisse's question. The pain and uncertainty in her voice was apparent even in her gentle words, hinting at the depth of her worry.
"The dark mark..." he said slowly, his voice quiet. "And the unbreakable vow...both are powerful and dangerous pieces of magic. Extremely so."
"Yes", sighed Elisse.
"I went through every book in the library, even in the forbidden section. Nothing." she was walking around nervously. "I've already heard that someone who can wield ancient magic could be able to undo the curse. I just don't know how."Professor Fig studied Elisse as she paced, seeing the stress and determination etched on her face. He considered her words for a moment before sighing and running a hand across his beard.
"The art of ancient magic is indeed rare and powerful," he started slowly. "It is said that those who wield it can defy the laws of magic. Whether or not that's true...I cannot say for certain."
Elisse walked over to Professor Fig and clasped her hands together. "I'm begging you. Could I study your wife's research and try to find an answer?"
Professor Fig looked at the pleading expression on Elisse's face, and his heart softened. He knew the weight of the burden she was carrying and her desperation to find a solution.
He took a deep breath and nodded slowly, "I'll let you take a look at my wife's research, but Elisse..."
"Yes Professor?" she asked
Professor Fig's expression grew serious as he looked straight into Elisse's eyes. "I want to warn you, the things you might find in her research... they won't be easy to understand. Miriam was a brilliant woman, but she delved into some realms of magic that even I struggled to comprehend..."
Elisse saw the seriousness of Professor Fig's warning, but was willing to do anything, just to help Ominis, "I understand, Professor Fig."
Professor Fig nodded gravely, "But please, promise me you'll be careful. Miriam's research can be... overwhelming, to say the least."
He then pointed to a stack of crates to the side of his classroom, "I've kept all her materials and notes stored over there."
Elisse looked at the pile of papers and notebooks and she thought that another sleepless night was waiting for her.
As Professor Fig watched Elisse eyeing the towering pile of research materials, a flicker of concern crossed his face. He knew the weight she was taking upon herself, and he could only hope that she would find the answers she sought.
"I wish you the best of luck," he said quietly, his voice filled with a mixture of hope and foreboding. "And, Elisse?"
Elisse looked tiredly at the professor, "yes?"
Professor Fig sighed as he looked at Elisse's exhausted face. He knew she was pushing herself to her limit, perhaps even beyond it, in her desperation to find a solution.
"Please," he said gently, "don't forget to take care of yourself, too. No good will come from you running yourself ragged. Rest when you need to, eat when you need to."
Elisse thought and remembered how she had promised Ominis that she would rest today. She nodded to the professor, "Thank you Professor Fig."
