Wanda hadn't said more than three words to me all evening. We ate in silence and then she decided she actually didn't want to have a bath so she sat and waited outside the bathroom door like I couldn't hear her on the other side, guarding it in case I slipped away again. When she finally crawled into bed next to me, she turned the other way, eyes open looking at the blank wall ahead with my duvet bunched up to her neck. I slowly wrapped my arms around her waist from behind and pulled her close to me until we were spooning, the hammering of her heart beat echoing through my chest.

"I'm sorry for worrying you," I whispered.

She shook her head as she released a shaky breath and linked our hands together as my arms wrapped her smaller body.

"You know I did it to protect you," I added.

"I know," she whispered back, "I know you think you're protecting me, but I don't need you to. I needed you to not put your life in danger; I know you said you can't afford to lose anyone else, well neither can I ... this team is all I have left and I can't even imagine being here without you."

"Are you gonna stay pissed off at me forever?" I smiled slowly, making her laugh out her nose slightly and turn to face me, her body still in my arms.

"Just for a little bit maybe," she replied, taking her hand and gently tracing the features of my face, "please don't take off again, I'm so scared of you leaving."

"I'm not going to," I assured her, as her eyes met mine and she nodded.

"You're not a bad person," she told me quietly.

"Thanks?" I replied with furrowed brows.

She laughed slightly and shook her head, "I heard what she said to you ... about your past and what you had done. I just need you to know that you're not a bad person Y/N/N."

"How much did you hear?" I asked, searching her sad smile, "all of it?"

"A lot of it," she answered honestly, "I know you would've told me when you felt comfortable enough, but I don't see you any different, you're the same person to me, okay?"

I bit my cheek and nodded slowly as she kept tracing my face again, my eyes remaining on hers.

"Why do you always say that?" I asked softly.

"What?"

"That my past doesn't make me," I added.

"Because it's true, I find it harder to apply the same principle to myself but it's true, maybe even for the both of us," she told me gently, cupping my cheek and running her thumb over my cheekbone gently.

My lips curled up into a smile as I leaned forward and pushed my lips against hers lovingly. She smiled back and kept her hand on my cheek as she kissed me back and for the first time in a while, I was kissing someone for the sake of kissing them, not for any other motive. And when she eventually pulled away to lean her head on my chest, I didn't chase her lips because I knew it wasn't the last time we would kiss, I knew I'd be kissing her for as long as I'd be granted.

"You've been careless and irresponsible one too many times now," Fury told me with a rising flush in his cheeks as his voice got firmer.

As he paced the front of the meeting room, Stark sat opposite me with Maria as I leaned back in my chair with my arms crossed, my workout gear shining through my tight long sleeve sports top and shorts.

"Give me three occasions I've been careless and irresponsible," I replied with a shrug.

"You almost set fire to the kitchen last month!" He told me.
