Locked in

When I pulled open the pages of the dark book in the middle of the night, the lock on my bedroom door clicked and my widow blew wide open, the posters stuck to my walls flapping in the wind. Quickly getting up off the bed, I pulled it shut and locked it tightly before sitting back down and opening the book to the cover page as an old style feathered pen appeared in my right hand, my breath uneven. As I took a big deep inhale and slowly letting it exhale, I bit my cheek and traced the pen down the page to the next open slot in what looked like a library log that had todays date marked.

Under the name Agatha Harkness, I scribbled my own name and watched the pen disappear once more as I placed my hands on my lap and watched the book slowly float up to a reading level, the pages turning as I breathed as evenly as possible, my hands shaking with my eyes flitting to each page that passed until I made the autonomous decision to place my hands on the pages, my intake pausing as my eyes fell shut and I felt every indent of the letters that marked out each word slowly crawling up my body, the words reading in my mind as I opened my eyes and felt my lips curling into a smile.

When I looked down at the book, the entire area surrounding me was a deep shade of purple and I sat upon the air looking down at the pages I couldn't decipher ten minutes ago now making perfect sense, almost as if translated into modern day English; pictures, highlights and page numbers accompanying it. Taking a further deep breath, using my abilities as a rarity, I flicked through the pages, skim reading every single section until a title caught my eye.

In thick cursive font 'The Violet Witch' stood proudly, my fingers running over the almost 3D letters as a loud knock echoed into my room followed by-

"Y/N/N!" Nat shouted, banging louder on the door as I dropped down onto my bed, the book closing as I slid it on top of my wardrobe and unlocked the door to Natasha still knocking.

"What could you possibly be doing at 1am that inherits-"

"Beka," she exhaled, cutting me off, grabbing my wrist and pulling me into Rebekas room where she was sat on her bed in hysterics, Bucky's strong arms wrapped around her body as her entire being trembled.

"What the fuck happened?" I asked, climbing into the bed in front of them and slowly reaching out to place my hands on her knees.

"Shhhh it's okay," Bucky mumbled softly to her as I looked over at Nat who was biting her cheek.

"Bucky called me and said she woke up and just started screaming," Natasha exhaled.

"I can't-" Beka sobbed, "I want to go back, I don't want this."

"Go back where?" Bucky asked her softly as she opened her eyes and looked deep into mine.

"I- I want to go back, take me back there," she stuttered.

"Where?" Nat butt in.

I shook my head to Rebeka, ignoring the other two, "I can't do that Beks."

"Yes you can, you took us there so you can get us back," she cried.

"It almost killed us, I'm not taking you back," I sighed, "that's not how it works."

"How what works? What have I missed?" Natasha asked loudly as Bucky sighed and looked up at her.

"Don't," I told him.

"She's not stupid Y/N, she's stood right there," he replied.

"What the fuck is going on? What does everyone know?" Nat butted in again.

"Me and Beka took a small ... trip last week to get some books and ... maybe it caused more harm than good," I admitted before looking back at Beka, "you're going to be okay but I can't reverse this, once you've asked for it there's no way to take it back, okay?"

She sniffled but nodded quickly, "I don't want to remember anymore."

"Maybe we just need to take it a memory at a time?" Bucky suggested.

"Where was this trip?" Nat asked me loudly.

"Nat it doesn't matter, Rebeka needs us right now," I sighed, side eyeing her.

"We walked the witches road," Beka exhaled shakily.

Nat's eyes widened as I quickly shot my own eyes to Beka then Bucky and then to Natasha.

"The witches road?" Natasha checked, "not the same witches road that-"

"Yeah," Bucky nodded slowly.

"You fucking idiots, why the fuck would you do that?" Nat cursed quietly as to not wake the rest of the floor.

"That's why all these memories are coming back to me," Beka sniffled, wiping her eyes.

"And the book- Y/N/N you didn't," Nat sighed, her eyes growing concerned, "please tell me you didn't go there for the darkho-"

"You don't understand," I cut her off with a shake of my head, "I had to."

"And dragging Beka with you? I didn't think you could be so irresponsible," Natasha breathed out, sitting down on the bed next to us, "I'm not even angry, I'm just disappointed."

"You know that's significantly worse," I replied.

"I know," she nodded, "you could've died, you could've been killed ... all for a book that's going to corrupt you and leave you for dead anyway."

"It's not going to corrupt me and I'd appreciate if this didn't get back to Wanda please."

"Why? So she can't stop you?" Nat asked harshly.

"I'm doing this to protect her, to protect all of you," I sighed.

"No you're not, you're doing this for yourself," she replied quickly.

"I'm not," I exhaled shakily.

"Don't read it, please don't open it," Bucky added.

"I- okay," I nodded slowly.

"Okay?" Nat checked, "just like that, okay?"

"Yeah, you asked me and I'm saying okay," I shrugged, "it's not like I get a moments peace in this tower anyway."

"We really can't go back?" Bela sniffled, "there's nothing you can do?"

"Nothing that won't make this worse than it already is," I agreed.

She nodded slowly and nuzzled herself further into Bucky who looked between myself and Natasha before nodding at the door.

"Okay," Nat whispered, placing a small kiss on Beka's shoulder before getting up and opening the bedroom door.

"I'm across the hall if you need anything," I smiled sadly as she gave me another nod before letting her eyes lull shut while I joined Nat, not saying anything until Rebeka's bedroom door was firmly shut.

"You're going to get yourself killed," she told me quietly.

"You need to stop mothering me, I know what I'm doing," I replied in a whispered shout.

"You clearly fucking don't," she swore, "every single day you do something that pushes everyone in your life further and further away from you, have you noticed that?"

"No I don't, what- what do you mean? Why would you say that?" I exhaled, a flash of hurt glossing over my eyes.

"You do Y/N/N, since Beka's come back into your life, you ruin everything you touch."

"What the fuck is wrong with you?" I asked slightly louder as my eyes flashed purple.

"I'm trying to help you, I care so much about you that I can't watch you do this anymore ... this is taking it too far, you're going to hurt everyone around you and I can promise you, you're going to lose your girlfriend in the process," she replied sharply.

"Fuck you Nat," I exhaled sharply, pushing her back with my abilities before turning around and walking back into my room as I slammed the door hard behind me.
