Brer Bear went to the Laughing Place to find Brer Rabbit bawling with droopy ears.
"Brer Rabbit, what's wrong?" said Brer Bear.
"I los' ma earphones" said Brer Rabbit. "So not only can I not lis'n ter de radio, but I can't per-ten ter lis'n ter de radio ter get outta conv'sashin wid bears wearin' toilet paypa."
"I'd use bandages, but Mother Possum's out. 'Paren'ly Brer Beaver fell down a watta fall de day I needs a mummy costume" said Brer Bear.
"Why's ya wearin' a costume?" said Brer Rabbit.
"Cuz I wan'd ter go ter de town staw ter buy a graphic novel" said Brer Bear.
Brer Rabbit's ears stood up. "Dare's a town staw? Maybe I could buy new earphones dare."
"Too bad it's 'genst de rules ter go" said Brer Bear.
"Rules? Dare's no rules in a secret mission" said Brer Rabbit.
Meantime, at the Fishing Spot, Brer Fox approached Patty with a big present.
"Howdy, Sis Patty. I gotcha a lil sum'n ter thank ya fer ketchin me" he said.
"Aw, thanks, Brer Fox, but I can't accept something..." Patty began.
But she instantly changed her mind when she opened the present.
"Oh, it's a cushion!" she squealed.
Then she took a seat on the cushion. "Jumpin' gee willikers. It's so comfy!"
"Comfiest one I could find" said Brer Fox. "An' I was hopin' it'd be a promise cushion."
"A promise cushion? I don't get it" said Patty.
"By acceptin' it, ya promises yaw hea't ter me" Brer Fox explained.
Patty's heart jumped. "That's awfully nice of ya. But I'm a folk and you're a critter. This little attraction, while adorable and... let's face it, tasteful, needs to come to an end."
"Oh, it will" said Brer Fox. "Prob'ly afta we gets married."
Then he strutted away as Burt passed by.
"Uh, Burt? I need your help" said Patty. "Someone seems to have succumbed to my charms. There must be a way to let him down easy, since I can't turn off all this." She gestured down her body.
"It's okay, Patty. Just make this someone think you're dating someone else. Then he'll know you can't be together, but won't feel rejected" said Burt.
"Did you use that on some poor sap who had a crush on you?" said Patty.
"I try, but they throw themselves at me too soon" said Burt.
Patty laughed. "Well, I'll just tell him Jeremy and I are back together."
"Lemme know how that works out for you" said Burt.
